I came up with an idea kind of tied into what appears to be AotP's story. The Thirteen are reawakening, one at a time. The second to last one to awake is Megatronus. He convinces Megatron and the Decepticons to attack the resting place of [Zeta Prime], the Thirteenth.
Optimus and the Autobots arrive to fight them off, and [Zeta] starts to awaken but Megatronus is able to kill him just as he comes back online.

Optimus, the Autobots, and the rest of the Thirteen turn the tide, and drive Megatronus and the Decepticons off.

In the aftermath it's discovered that part of [Zeta]'s spark is salvageable. The other members of the Thirteen decide that Optimus, as the current Matrix bearer, should take in what remains of [Zeta]'s spark, and this upgrades Optimus into his Stark Convoy form.

Optimus isn't the actual Thirteenth, but he has his power and stands in for him in the wider AotP story.
...So, "Optimal Situation". ;)

Eh, tropes are tools.

And that at least explains why Star Optimus' artifact is the Zetaiac.

I mean, the Zodiac.

"All of this has happened before...."
"History rhymes."

Or, having invoked two longer-lived science fiction franchises, allow me to say in my own words that we don't get a 40-years-plus storytelling multiverse without revisiting a few ideas now and again.😉

That being said, there's a certain symmetry in having Optimus Prime carry the spark of One of The Great Primes of Yore, as a Maximal starship captain did for him in the distant past....

Yeah, I like any story better that has Optimus start out as just a regular guy and grow into something more. I don't care for stories where he was predestined to be the most specialist boy.

In fact, a good writer could do an interesting series where you have "comes from nothing and grows into a great leader" Optimus contrasting with a "born special" Rodimus who, despite being the literal chosen one, just doesn't know what to do now that he's been thrust into leadership. Basically later G1 but not as annoying?

That's what spurred on the idea. All of the other Primes have their emblems emblazoned on their weapons.
Star Convoy Optimus, on the other hand, has the Zodiac, this crystal like thing that sits in his chest. Almost like Optimus was carrying the essence of the real Thirteenth Prime.

I think the story should be that the Aerialbots are once again transported back in time after a accident causes the present day to change and they need to locate Vector Prime to get back to the present day but only to find history as they know it, has been changed, to fix things, they need to find the remain 12 primes who all been scattered across history, but Vector cannot do the quest alone as he need to reframe from getting to involved otherwise the timeline could become set and they would be lost forever, plus he must abide by the rules that his creator has imposed on him, thus all he can do is transport the Aerialbots to the different timelines and get them to find the missing primes and signal Vector their location when the Prime is ready to leave! The cause can be Shockwave's experiements and he has sent the Combatacons back in time to spilt the Primes up and to see what happens as all good mad scienists do, he has setup a lab that exists outside of Time and space thus uneffected by the changes, yet his actions are being infilenced by a outside force who do not conform to the normal rules of the Universe, the only anchor the Aerialbots have to their original timeline is Red Alert, who is montoring their progress, but apart of the Aerialbots mission, is to find the fake primes, bots who weren't created by Primus or have been completely croupted by the forces controlling Shockwave or just random bots who proclaim to be a prime when they are just nobodies!

That definitely sounds like it has the vibe of one of them awesomely mind-boggling "let's use all the toys in this line and then some" mangas we used to get. The Aerialbots are here, the Stunticons are around, short stache Trion, Vector Prime for some Vector Time (Travel), why not.

Give this man a contract for a 2 season animated show on Netflix.
