Toys Transformers Generations Selects Monstructor Leaked

We've heard speculation. We've heard rumors. We've heard hints. Now, we see.

TFW2005 member Nune, who we will remember from last month's big leak, has revealed stock images of Generations Selects Monstructor, a gift set comprised of a quite extensive remold of Transformers Legacy United Dinoking, itself a remold of Legacy United Volcanicus. The Monster Pretenders here have brand new alt modes that are... quite fitting for the characters at least. The originals are roughly the size of Micromasters and no more complicated than that.

I for one find that the goofy charm of the original is quite well preserved. Now excuse me while I press F5 until Hasbro makes the official announcement and preorders begin.

I genuinely liked Monstructor before IDW made him cool. This isn't the remake I imagined. But I'm completely happy with this. I never had any serious hope we'd get one at all. Dinoking simultaneously raised and dashed that weak hope. It raised the possibility, but it was also totally possible that they'd stop at Dinoking and call it done. A simple repaint would never be totally satisfying. Some remolding would be needed, and another Transformers team might have considered these guys who never had a cartoon appearance not worth that kind of budget and effort. But they did this. it's so much more remolding than I dared hope for.

This is pure stream of consciousness now. You know what I just realized as I was typing this? I realized what I see in these alt modes. These aren't exactly the original alt modes, sure. These are 1980s Nintendo of America inaccurate manual drawings of the original alt modes. The 1989 toys would be the actual sprites in this metaphor. The artwork is wildly off from what was intended, as later art would go on to clarify, but there's a clueless sincerity to it that's charming today.

I love it. I will have it.

I never got Volcanicus. I missed Dinoking. But this? I am very tempted indeed!

Also, that really is a lot of retooling for a third release of this set, for a character whose biggest claims to fame are looking cool and what IDW comics did with him.

So, since this is a retool of a different combiner team, I am going to let the questionable alt modes slide. I will say that the combined mode is more than adequate and will make a decent combiner. My only complaint is that its going to be a tiny combiner standing next to Overlord.

The only way to make this combiner team without questionable alt modes would be to make a completely different combiner team.

“We’re just as cool as Abominus, right guys?”

Goofy monsters wanting to be edgy. I mean, the TF wiki description really leans into The hamminess of him being some mythical eldritch abomination.

Plus, they’re just the Pretender Monsters. No team name. I love it.
