We've reached the middle of the end of the first part of the story.

Episode 35 is "For the Win II: Threat from Above", though it's titled on YouTube as "The Fall of Optimus Prime." (Don't worry, they only mean it literally.) It is described there as such:

Optimus Prime has fallen into danger, and Galvatron isn't slowing down. As the Autobots race to save their leader, they'll need a new plan to stop Galvatron before it's too late. Can they pull off the impossible?

Check it out, yo:

And here be ye recap and review, with spoilers, no less!

We pick up with Galvatron fighting Scorponok (who is being ridden by Chop Shop). Funny this isn't a battle we see more often -- it's been like, what, 22 years since the last one?

Yep, not a single thing since then...

Anyway, he holds his own, but nevertheless decides to take to the sky after the flyers, Starscream and Mirage. Suffice to say, Screamer fares better in 2026 than he did in 1986.

Meanwhile, Optimus and not-Team Optimus are busy scaling the blocks now floating along the outside of the siphon. Optimus laments not being able to shoot Galvatron right in his ugly face, while Wheeljack is fascinated by the siphon giving the raw power of the energon surge without any negative effects.

Optimus determines that the siphon must be shut off, as if Galvatron reactivates it, they'll have to start over. Yeah, I get it, I hate having to reload a boss fight after already spending six minutes on it, too.

Elita notes it would also be with a fraction of the energon. Yeah, those restarts where you're in the same condition you died in are even worse.

Wheeljack goes on about the difficulty of deactivating it, but Elita gives him a cheat code (read: explosives). OP asks Mirage to buy them some time, but apparently, that's what he's been doing this whole time. Well, who looks like the jerk now, Optimus?

Yeah, this version of Mirage has really grown on me. He might be a favorite, even. Near the top, at the very least.

Scorponok transforms to his Very Big Robot mode, and continues going after Galvatron. Bumblebee asks Wheeljack if the bombs will work, and oh boy, will they! Even if they just put them where the scrap ever, "they should be 98% effective". Of course, there's also the chance the raw energon reacts and decimates most of the area.

"How big a chance?" Bumblebee asks.

"I've said too much," Wheeljack replies.

That's not good enough for Bumblebee, who tries to repeat the question, but Elita, who wasn't there for that part, gets on him to hurry up. Think she'd be so hasty if she knew how big a chance -- or of what?

Okay, so I think Galvatron threw Mirage into Scorponok, which knocked Chop Shop off, and then Scorponok fell on him in a cloud of pixels. Then Big G Money spots the others doing the time bomb again, and does his best superhero landing (ironic), knocking the bombs into the energon. All of them? Some of them? Not sure.

Galvatron must be a big Marvel fan, because after that landing, he goes on about how this is inevitable. And hey, he's purple, to boot! I bet he thought pulling this scheme off would be a snap, too.

Galvy restarts the siphon flow as it was before, so things are bad again. Or worse. They've only got a short time before it reaches full capacity. So they decide to attack his life points -- er, I mean the siphon -- directly.

Cyberworld gets all glitchy, but it's not all bad news: An item box appears next to Bumblebee, and he grabs what's inside, and it reminds him of why we're all here to begin with...

But before he can do anything, Galvatron swoops in, knocking the others aside (and seemingly knocking the surge booster offline in the process) and like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, he's taking Optimus for a ride. OP tries to "axe" him a question, but G isn't listening.

He drops Optimus into the big pool of energon at the top of the siphon, expecting it to... kill him, I guess? Or at least hurt.

Cue "The Death of Optimus Prime"... or at least a substitute track with some gravitas, as Optimus is swallowed up by the glowing blue pool.

Hmm... "glowing"? "Blue"? Now why does that seem familiar?

Oh, that's right! Because it ties into what I was saying earlier about why we're all here: To sell toys and move product!

Bumblebee uses the item he got, which gives him a new alt-mode that's like an armored drill-buggy, and he puts it to use right away, burrowing into the ground where Galvatron's attacks can't reach him, then up to the top of the siphon and right at Galvatron, drill bit first, where... Galvatron just grabs it, and Bee starts to spin. Right round. Like a record, baby. Right round, right round.

How much does this toy retail for again? Might need a discount after this.

Anyway, the new but not-necessarily-improved Bumblebee gets yoinked by the neck, and Galvatron prepares to insert his palm-plug into his neck. I think that was how he'd drain bots of their energon before? (Feel free to tell me in the comments if I'm off on that.)

Suddenly, an orange axe with an electric blue crackle comes flying in, separating Bumblebee from his fate, and then... it's a bird! It's a plane! It's a munky! No, it's a truck!

You get what I'm going for. OP swoops in, grabs Bumblebee from the ledge, and takes them both to ground level, doing a superhero landing of his own, before reminding us why he's the star: Bea cause he's not here to sell us on one new toy, but two! (Well, one new and one old, in case you hadn't bought it yet.)

Not only is he crackling with new Energon Surge Energon Armored Cyber Changer Optimus Prime power, but he also breaks out the ol' Gatling gun from the original Armored Cyber Changer! Collect them all!

He and the others target the wall of the siphon, and with but a single word, "Fire," they start unloading enough firepower into that thing that you can literally see the wall bending inward from above as the whole thing goes kablooey.

OP's Energon Surge passes (Ha! Sucker! You didn't have to buy the new toy, after all! Your old one is still good!), and Wheeljack groans that he wanted to study it. I love you Wheeljack, but points deducted for not saying "I needed that!" Elita and the others check on OP, who reassures them that he's fine.

But there's still one part left for this season, so they're obviously not that fine, as a glowing, cackling Galvatron emerges from the siphon's wreckage.

Okay, Transformers: Cyberworld crew: I don't ask for a whole lot, but it would really make my day next week if you could just include one teeny reference to something outside of the normal Transform-o-sphere at the start of the next episode. Lotsa love if you do this for me!

So, yeah. This was a very middling episode. That isn't to say it's average or run of the mill, but that it definitely feels like it belongs in the middle of something. On its own, it was just fine, but I bet it will probably be best enjoyed when bookended by the episodes preceding and succeeding it.

Unless whoever uploads the last part next weekend keeps up the mantra of "run it back(wards)", and we get the last episode followed by this and then the first one after.

Seriously, who watches anything that way?! I know media literacy is dead, but that doesn't mean we have to "Dark Awakening" its corpse!

Anyway, yeah. Good ep, but make sure you watch the one before it first.

And, uh, buy the toys, I guess. BBTS has Scorponok, at least. Using this link helps support the site.

Bye!

But what did you think? Catch anything I didn't? Feel free to talk about this episode here, or the series as a whole over in the "Bumblebee is a little bitch and Optimus is lead around by his balls" (oh, my...) thread in our forums!

They really should have pushed Prime's return into next week's episode. Let the moment breathe a little.
And lose a week's worth of toy sales?! Are you nuts?!

I wish we got some decent deluxes like with Earthspark and Cyberverse. I love the new Bumblebee design as shown in the episode but not too keen on it as a giant figure with limited poseability.
