Transformers: Cyberworld is back with a new episode!
In "Oh Crate, This Again," a new crate drop has appeared, and Team Optimus is out to get it, since the boost device they have is too dangerous. Unfortunately, they're not the only ones interested in whatever lies within the box...
Or, if you'd rather read the description from YouTube:
Optimus Prime and his team discover another mysterious crate drop! But they’re not alone… The fearsome Dinobot Snarl is back and ready to battle - and this time, there are even more surprise loot hunters joining the fight! Who will win the crate and claim the prize?
Check it out, yo:
Plus more game scenes after, if that's your jam.
And here's my recap and thoughts (spoilers, of course):
The Autobots are cautiously approaching the crate, as Optimus realizes they aren't alone, when who should show up but Snarl? And he's not playing around; he wants that crate for himself.
Turns out that while he may be alone, he's not the only one. Chop Shop bursts forth from the brushes, still riding Scorponok's very toyetic arm-cycle thing.
Things turn into a heated game of keep-away/capture-the-crate as everyone vies for the prize. Chop Shop is soon thrown from his bike, but his big hammer is enough to help him keep pace.
There's a neat moment when Optimus and Snarl are locked hand-to-hand, and Prime raises his arms enough to allow the smokestacks on the underside to blast smoke into Snarl's eyes. And that's really just one part of what makes this show so brilliant, the way they can take little bits like that which make up part of the character's robot mode appearance and turn them into something functional. It feels like an approach you might have taken as a kid playing with toys, but seems more seldom seen from writers. It's fun, and definitely helps sell the toys as having a little bit more going on with them -- at least, in my opinion.
Oh, and then as Snarl staggers blindly towards the crate, Optimus gets him for a belly-to-black suplex into a bridge! If only this were for a title and not possession of a new item or something.
Wheeljack, who isn't participating, starts getting all sorts of odd readings, and power-ups begin to appear on the field of battle. Very video game-y stuff, of course, like cloaking and a super-sizer.
Still, Snarl has that ninja energy, and when a cloaked Elita comes after him, he dodges so Optimus can take the hit instead, and then transforms and... er, rolls out. Like Sonic the Hedgehog during a spin dash.
Neat.
Chop Shop regains his bike, and it becomes a three-way race between him, Optimus, and Snarl to reach the crate first. And the winner is...
...Galvatron?!
Okay, that should come as no surprise, if you read the above or looked at the thumbnail. Or the current title of the video on YouTube.
Though I guess I shouldn't say he's won yet, as he doesn't claim the crate -- he only prevents the others from reaching it, all while gloating that his idea of letting them go to regain their strength has paid off.
Aside: I would love to know what inspired this version of Galvatron. Just from every angle: Characterization, accent, dragon alt-mode, etc.
Snarl encourages all of them to not falter, and keep on it, as they all rush Galvatron. Chop Shop, however, does falter and breaks off running away.
After the whole group is blown clear with one flap of Galvatron's wings, Optimus uses the booster against Wheeljack's pleas, and goes after Galvatron again, this time dual-wielding his axes. He throws the weapons, and while his energon axe does nothing to the vampiric villain, Megatron's does. Galvatron calls the weapon archaic before throwing it at Snarl, but hey, it worked.
Galvatron stands tall as the power-ups begin to wear off, and Chop Shop comes running back through, screaming for his life.
Snarl gives Optimus the nod, and Prime goes for the crate and gets...
Fan service.
Specifically, he gets the classic G1 Optimus Prime ion blaster, and using the last of the jet boost power-up he got earlier... well, just see for yourself:
The music isn't quite "The Touch," but it's enough to leave no doubts of what they were going for here.
For all that, though, the blaster doesn't seem to do as much to Galvatron as one would think or hope. It staggers him a bit, sure, and that's more than most of this battle with him has brought, but that's about it.
As Galvatron taunts Optimus about whether he thinks he can take him alone, Optimus replies that he knows he can't... "but he can!"
Enter: Scorponok.
A pissed-off Scorponok, at that, demanding to know where his arm is. I have to say, I really appreciate the attention to detail and continuity there.
Everyone makes a break for it... including Chop Shop, who's screaming as he rides towards the camera on said arm.
This was another good little episode. Nothing too deep, but a lot of fun, with some neat ideas, framing, references, and other stuff that makes it worth a watch. Plus, it leaves me eager to see where they pick up next time.

Feel free to talk about this episode here, or the series as a whole over in the "Transformers CyberWorld: You Know The Song!" thread in our forums!
