"The ship! Get to the ship! It's our only chance!"
A familiar (but paraphrased) refrain from the 1986 classic The Transformers: The Movie, yes, but also a good summation of what this episode is about.
Have a look-see for yourself:
And as always, if you like the sensation of feeling like you're going back in time a few chunks at a time, then episodes 17, 16, and 15 trail this one.
Now, doing something a little different this week, and giving a little bit of a recap and mini-review (because really, can you do a deluxe review on five minutes of cartoon?). Let me know what you think, and if response is positive, maybe I'll keep doing this.
Our story begins with Optimus caught in the moment from last episode, where Megatron sacrificed himself got what was coming to him at the hands -- well, hand, now, after Chop Shop toyetically took off with his other one (nice continuity, btw) of Scorponok.
But now Optimus and his fellow Autobots need to haul tailgate to the shuttle before Scorponok gets them. Unfortunately, while they make it (with some help from Mirage), so does he -- until Grimlock and Snarl elect to stay behind to keep him occupied while Prime and friends escape before the encroaching energy storm closes in. But before they get to do that, they pick up an emergency transmission from... Wheeljack?! The dead guy? Well, that's what Elita wants to find out, and so they abandon ship.
This felt a little odd. Is it just me, or did it seem like Optimus got through to Megatron at the end of the last episode? Hence the whole, you know, vaporizing Megatron intoscrap metal EXP. And now the Autobots and Dinobots are fending for their lives against him.
One cool moment was Optimus taking up Megatron's axe alongside his own. Not sure if he keeps it or not, though, since they smash cut to the group racing for their lives right afterwards.
I was amused by what I'm guessing was Jack Ayres' Mirage doing an impression of Kyle Kaczmarczyk's Optimus Prime, though... and then Optimus telling him that comms are open.
It's cool to see that Grimlock has finally put his enmity with Optimus Prime aside for the good of the whole group. And may I just say that Snarl riding inside Grimlock makes a better 2-Dinobot Combiner than Energon's Mega Dinobot?
It's really interesting to see Optimus... hesitate, to go to another's aid for the sake of the mission. He doesn't take a lot of convincing to go back, but that pause feels like a relatable imperfection that I don't think we often get to see in the Autobot leader.
Huh. Wonder what that flash was before Optimus hit the eject button?
Man, I know the ship was in bad shape, but those escape pods sucked. Might as well have just jumped out after Mirage, huh?
All that, then Scorponok saves them? Optimus said The Thing, but what a weird turn, yeah?
Overall, though, I liked the episode. Felt like "Yeah, they're obviously not getting off Cyberworld this early," but I think they managed to keep the how and why of it interesting enough.

But, what do you think? Of the episode, and my commentary! Tell us in the comments below, or sound off in the "Transformers Cyberworld: Gotta Go Fast" thread in our forums!
Just please be gentle, my feelings hurt easy.
Edit: Whoops. Botched the opening line. Embarrassing, but fixed.
