It's just a blatantly unfinished design. Nobody ever intended it to look like that. I think Siege was at least at the concept art stage when the finishing touches on POTP were supposed to be done, and it sucked all the enthusiasm out of anything they were currently working on. Predaking was too far along to switch to the new standard they knew was coming, and they just didn't care anymore.

I'll just say this. With the DNA design kit, that Predaking is ******* awesome. He is genuinely one of the highlights of my collection.

Interestingly enough, his original release was also the straw that broke my then wife's back, leading to my first divorce. Good guy, that Predaking.

damn the toy broke your ex's back? is it solid gold or something and it fell on her?

ha. ha. ha.
No, to her it represented that I would never grow up, never be the person her mother wanted for her, never be able to provide the lifestyle she wanted. Because I'd rather have toys and temporary happiness that comes from the new toy dopamine rush.

I missed out on POTP Predaking the first time around, but I'm torn about this rerelease.

On the one hand, that price isn't very enticing and its size leaves me willing to wait for a smaller version more in scale with the other combiners.

But on the other hand, a part of me likes the idea of using its giant size with my Beast Wars toys to show what it might have looked like if Predaking had made a guest-starring appearance alongside his Predacon descendants in Beast Wars.

unluckiness

Somehow still sane

Predaking was a mild disappointment but not a completely terrible purchase at the old SRP. Spent too much effort on hitting a specific height and not nearly enough effort on decent beast modes for the team whose selling point is that they are beasts. Factor in the new scale and the general baseline Generations quality increase and asking for that much is lololololol

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Yeah, he was okay... there was a couple fiddly bits on there that are easy to lose. As is documented in the "help sorting parts" thread we have.

Man, every time I look at that thing, I wonder if they missed a step to collapse the abdomen. It looks like it should slide down to make him more proportional, but it doesn't. Like they decided that being taller was more important than looking good.
Yeah, they basically did. That's why they made Metroplex so lanky, to be able to say he was the "tallest Transformer" for marketing purposes. POTP Predaking was the same height as CW Devvy, despite only being 5 components, though.

Of course, the cases of Predaking vs. Metroplex, they were each made by two different Hasbro teams.

It *is* a pretty underwhelming Predaking IMO. The narrow, anemic torso being the worst offender.

Predaking is likely the back of the Combiner pile so 2030 isn’t an outrageous release date for a new one.

I appreciate what they had in mind. They wanted to make a combined mode that looks magically too big relative to the individual components. The torso is obviously not just Razorclaw. He doesn't have enough mass to turn into all that. It's impossible.

It could have been neat.
