Thrilling 30 Swerve is still my favorite, but I do like the AOP Swerve too. Honestly, give him a smile or smirk and it would have worked better. I think the could be true to the old animation and still give some nods to IDW. Now I feel obligated to buy Tailgate though to finish out the deluxe mini bots.
I think I'll get this Tailgate as well, despite the weirdness of the head. They probably wouldn't bother with a Retro (not a lot of difference), and even if they did, the animation model head is so based on the toy's tiny-head-set-in-block that they would probably just reuse this one.

What I really want for him and Windcharger is opaque windows. The latter was in Studio Series even, where that would be relevant. But that ship has sailed.

Swerve would be okay if the towers to either side of his head were thicker, going the entire width of his shoulder area.
He isn't even supposed to have those. They're supposed to be further back behind his head rather than jutting out from the sides of it.

Swerve's toy was based on the fan-made Ukrainian character model (which isn't even an actual character model but instead a tracing of a screencap from "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5") instead of his official character model. Note not just the head but also the chest details, the painted-on sunroof (which his official model doesn't have) and the positioning of both the Autobot symbol and the molded M logo in vehicle mode:

Has anyone discussed these with, idk, Mark or Evan or anyone? Given them a packet? Made a wiki page saying Designers Look Here Please (and below pages and pages of Please Make Botbots Again there's finally a section about "don't use these, use THESE")?

I believe Monzo has directed them toward the correct models, but Google Image search results still rear their ugly head, giving Hasbro more excuses to do releases of better versions later on, cuz they just know we're all suckers who will keeping buying these things.

i like how both the fan model and the official model are ugly
Welcome to 1980s American television animation. :p

Alternatively: He'd fit right in with the GoBots.

I loved it as a kid. Haven't seen an episode of it since the 80's though

It's hard to get today. There is a DVD set but I don't think they ever did the second season. Not enough people care, I guess.

It's bad and aged badly, but there's definitely moments where they blew all of the budget on one shot, and those moments do make me happy.

The 3 DVDs only cover season 1, and they have been pretty expensive on the secondary market. At least last I knew, Toho had the entire series available on YouTube, albeit split into 3 parts per episode:

It's not anything earth-shattering, but there are some cool-looking monsters, and it's a fun watch. I believe it was made in association with the Marvel Godzilla comics, though not connected to that storyline. Oddly enough, there's an episode in season 2 where Godzilla battles an evil organization called Cobra, whose uniforms are mainly blue, several years before GI Joe: A Real American Hero introduced the more famous evil organization called Cobra whose uniforms started out as mainly blue. Since Marvel was involved in that, I sometimes wonder if an idea didn't get recycled there.
