This looks great. I like how they interpreted the alt-modes. Even Slog, looking at pictures of this new one and the old one side by side, the facial features are all there, just more organic. The IDW head and the scythe go together wonderfully, they make him even a little bit more monstruous. I really hope I can eventually get this, I had a big (like 20 cm tall) Monstructor knockoff in random colors and no shells when I was a little kid, before I even knew G1 was a thing. That thing was one of my favourite toys back then, it was crazy finding out it was a Transformer all along as a teen.
I hope they'll one day find a way to do the shells, though. Those are very cool too.

I could pair the Monstructor team up with a few of the Eldrador Creatures of some sort like I gave the Dinoking team the Safari LTD armored dinos to ride on. And send Deathsaurus even further down the path to being a 40k Ork Runtherd...

So cool! I never had Monstructor as a kid because Transformers had kind of lost me by '89. I was growing up and even at the ripe old age of twelve, felt that the Transformers I saw on toy shelves weren't "my Transformers" (and of course they weren't; how could they have been?). Still, I had friends who got him and I always thought he was awesome. Never tracked him down as an adult collector, so I am super stoked for this.

That's pretty good looking, especially since Dinoking had the dinosaur shells for alt-modes but this one uses the inner monsters, necessitating a fair amount of remolding, but it worked out pretty well (though I agree Slog gets the short end of the stick). Woulda been nice if they had gone with a metallic gold instead of caramel brown, but I assume that's in order to avoid GPS problems.

I probably will be passing since I've already got Dinoking, but I think they did a good job here!

I wonder how DragonTail is doing these days. I remember Cybertron Unicron was the basis for his fanfic universe's version of Bludgeon.

I'm acknowledging that this is a total and complete tangent for this thread, but +1 for the DT mention. I re-read that entire series w/in the last few years, and I remember how exciting it always was when he'd post a new chapter. I actually got a shout-out for reminding him of something that he used in one fight scene.

DragonTail's work basically WAS the Unicron Trilogy for me after I tapped out of the cartoons but still embraced the toys. I don't agree with all of the choices he made for repurposings and characters, but it was such an enjoyable, thoughtful, fascinating universe. I think that was the last time I was that into fanfic as well.

He's a journalist (was then too)! Has done some pretty solid work iirc.

When I first saw the alt modes, I felt...

I DO hope that the photos were simply a case of the Hasbro photographers up to their usual level of fail and not just really, really bad TF designs...

I was really hoping for a larger version made up of deluxe size monsters. I knew that was a long shot though.

I bet we'll get a bigger version SOMEday (we nearly did in Combiner Wars), but I'll take a small Monstructor over no Monstructor any day. Especially since the original was also tiny, this one doesn't bother me being small.

I keep a small-scale display along with my standard scale one, so I'll just put him there.

Yeah, I've got a small display (pun probably intended) of what I consider to be micro/mini beings. Micromasters, various other "-masters", Decoys, Spy Changers, Mini-Cons, etc. Dinoking is proudly among them, as Monstructor will hopefully be, too.

For me, it just depends on when and how this is made available. As I said earlier, I never had the original but appreciated it in-period. I have lived all of my adult collecting life in the absence of a Monstructor, and will be just fine if I miss this one. And please don't misunderstand: I don't want to miss out on this, but I'm also not willing to go to extraordinary lengths for it. Increasingly, orders / preorders require the consumer to stand on one hand, cross their legs, be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time on an inevitible weekday, and hope against hope that the goddamn preorder (it's a PREORDER for crissakes) doesn't sell out in a matter of minutes. Sorry, I'm just getting a little fed up with the BS. /end rant.

I guess there's no reason in fiction that Monstructor can't be a larger bot made up of small bots similar to the Autobot mini-car combiner idea. I'm starting to come around to this after thinking of it that way.

I like the combined mode, but I am not keen on the size or the alt modes. I will have to think if I want to pay $100 for this set or not.
