It's absolutely the second one, and I wish Trudeau had the balls to tell him in no uncertain terms exactly where he can stick his dreams of annexing Canada, and threaten to slam the door in his stupid face if he dares to bring it up again.

He wouldn't like the results of Canada being a state anyway. Canada sits left of the US as a whole and it would result in the Republicans losing power in congress. It would also make the electoral college map less favorable to the Republicans. They would HAVE to split Canada up into multiple states in order to stay in power. Only way it could happen would be for Canada to request annexation(not gonna happen) or for the US to go full-on imperialist and just start invading and taking territory(likely won't happen, but Trump and the sycophants he has surrounded himself with would possibly like to try)

Florida already puts up with them. Their driving skills are considered legendary down here.

I don't know how splitting it in pieces would help. Every piece would get 2 Senators.

If they split the conservative areas into a lot of small states and the liberal areas into a few large states, that would gain them a lot of conservative seats.

I am doubtful that they would be able to gerrymander up the states.

I mean, we are talking about a fantasy here. Canadians obviously want to be near the United States, but they don't want to be it. But if they were joining these United States I really think there is no solution other than admitting each province as a state.

Not every province leans left, which is why they would have to split it up in order to maintain control. Quebec would also present a bit of a problem.... I'd imagine trying to integrate that province into the US structure would prove rather dicey. It's not 1812 anymore, after all.

More likely, it all gets made into a territory, in a situation where its inhabitants aren’t full citizens, like Puerto Rico. I mean, if Canada was annexed, it wouldn’t be peacefully or consented upon, so I doubt the Canadian population would be treated particularly nicely.

I mean, Quebec has talked a lot about independence over the years. It sounds like lefties too. So an option definitely on the imaginary table is taking only the provinces that you want as states and leaving Quebec where it is. We gave them an open invitation in 1776 that they were preapproved to join us and they just left it where it was.

Imagine American rednecks suddenly having to put up with the Quebecois.
Imagine the Quebecois suddenly having to put up with Americans. I know you're picturing some kind of Warner-kids-pestering-the-Devil situation, but I'm not sure which is which in this case. I rather doubt our government would be the kind of pushovers that Canada's have been, at any rate.

Wonder if they'll burn down Mar-a-Lardo instead of the capitol this time, since the orange shitgibbon is far more likely to be there.

*snerk Mar a lardo. . . .

Look, we're not annexing, taking over, or going to war with Canada. Trump has been, is, and will continue to be a ******* moron who says and types stupid jive that would disqualify literally anyone else from office, but we as a nation have decided it's time to give the ****** another shot at steering the ship.
I think, as a nation, we should just accept that he's going to continue to be exactly who he's been from day one and just ignore this kind of dumb ass jive as best we can. This is mediocre tip of the iceberg idiocy. He's going to be doing some truly heinous jive very soon and I'd rather time and effort be focused on reporting that.
