Goddammit, how f**king stupid do you have to be, in order to think that giving power back to the rich white man who's friends with the richest man in the world is somehow striking a blow against "the establishment"?
The one small saving grace of the GOP winning total control of EVERY branch of the federal government is that they can no longer blame the Democrats when sh*t goes south. They have full control of the car now, and if they drive it into a frozen lake, it's 100% on them.

I wonder if this will result in a civil war within the GOP when they realize that they will finally have to either stand up to Trump or allow him to do massive damage to the country in the name of their party. Or maybe they'll continue being the spineless yes-men that we've been watching with growing disgust since 2016.
Trumpers are going to be so disappointed when DEI and "wokism" don't disappear as a result of the orange asshole becoming president.

No question: Gavin Newsom is utterly reviled by a lot of people (and not just hyper-conservatives). He'd have the lefist base, but he'd have an uphill battle winning over enough of the rest of the nation to be elected.

I don't say it's impossible for 2028, but if he ran this year (especially if hampered by the timeline set by Biden's withdrawal), I'm confident he'd have lost, too.

Newsome does not *at all* have the leftist base. In fact, of the major candidates people have been brainstorming (ie Buttigieg, Whitmer, AOC) he’d have the least support from the leftist base.

How so? The biased media these people consume are 100% going to blame any and all problems on the Democrats.

Texas has had complete Republican hegemony for DECADES and *if* people do rightfully hold them responsible for problems they sure as hug don’t vote that way.

Speaking of things from his last go in office - I'll be curious to see if the US intelligence community has come up with plans to avoid Trump hoarding and potentially selling off Top Secret documents this time.
There was talk a couple years ago of a system where Top Secret documents would only be available on a tablet.

Edit - https://www.slashgear.com/pentagon-tests-tablet-access-to-secret-classified-documents-02493775/

It was more recent than 2017 that I learned of this, but I am not seeing an update on it. If I were them, I would get finished with it ASAP.

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Tangentially related: a lot of the people whom watch similar stuff to me on youtube are obviously starting to panic; cause I am getting LOTS of survivalist and prepper videos today.

I read a quote here years ago that I believe was attributed to a Founding Father and I thought I remembered it word for word, but I'm getting nothing on Google now. Can someone redirect me?

"If we're to have a tyrant, let him be from the other party"

Definitely not. If the trend is anti-incumbant, it might even have been worse....
It is difficult to accept, but a lot of people on voting day and the day after googled "Did Biden drop out".

I'm not saying I think it is a good idea. I'm just playing with it. But while it would have made her more the incumbent. It would also have made her less the lady who might not have any idea what to do.

If I were Biden, another idea I would play with is to wait an another month while Trump and his superfans get a bunch of 47 merch in from China and THEN resign. He is the one person who can still make Kamala Harris the first woman President of the United States, but don't do it until they've wasted a whole bunch of their stupid money.

The Joe Biden who would do that is long gone. The milquetoast Biden we've got now is just going to while away his time while Trump's allies plot to burn the world.

Yeah, I know. But there was another group of votes to be lost if she started complaining about him. My childhood impression that VPs get elected President was a really bad take and I didn't know it until a few weeks ago. It is REALLY hard for a VP to win that election. Being Joe Biden's teammate is the reason she has the standing to be on the ballot. Without the Biden administration and her implied high level participation in it, she is a former Senator running for President who got picked out of a hat. Asking her if she disagrees with Biden is asking her to name errors that she's made in the White House. It is a rotten question. I'm not saying they shouldn't ask it, but it is a trap and I don't know what to say if I am her.
