It would also require Democrats to grow something resembling a spine. They're paranoid of what's going to happen to their reputation if they prosecute a rival candidate for the presidency, which Trump is never not going to be so long as a Democrat is in charge of the DOJ.

@Teufel Just to clarify, this isn’t about gun politics. The issue my friend raised is more about the consistency of the Secret Service's statements and whether we can trust the information they’re putting out. Breaking news can be chaotic, sure, but when the narrative shifts like this, it’s natural to question why. It’s not about a “sinister plot” but more about holding authorities accountable for the information they provide.

@Axaday He didn't cite an article, but I found this:

I can see how a reader might interpret that as "pointing a gun at Trump."

I don't really know what to say. You, like me and Teufel, could not find substantiation. I don't think Sheriff Bradshaw has much responsibility for how a reader might interpret something and I don't think he was there and I don't think the Secret Service has much responsibility for his statement that is probably just confused. I don't know anything about Sheriff Bradshaw. Maybe he craves attention and ran out to break the news or maybe someone confronted him with a microphone and he just gave his understanding? He probably shouldn't have said anything at all, but it really doesn't resemble a story changing to me. The first thing I saw was that there'd been another assassination attempt and really pretty soon there was the statement that has persisted the whole time.

The stable genius is hallucinating audiences now.

Harris's comment about people leaving his rallies must've hit him harder than we thought.

Jesus his brain is just....wow. He really was looking forward to taking on Biden.

Ironbite-even if he gets' elected, I give it 6 months before the GOP 25ths him.

I wish I could believe that there's anything Trump could do that would get the GOP to 25th him.

If they have a chance to seize power, they'll take it. Especially as this madman has proven so uncontrollable. The problem is, if they wait, he could strike first and decapitate them instead in order to become El Presidente.

Ironbite-all comes down to who pulls the trigger first.

25th-ing Glorious Leader means rousing the ire of his cult, and the GOP's too cowardly to risk rousing their ire or worse, losing their votes.

Wouldn't need their votes if you declare martial law. And Vance is stupid enough to do so.

Ironbite-Project 2025 is very explicit.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

They can't even if they want to: trump controls the RNC. IF they managed to wrestle control away from him, AND do the impossible and replace him on the ballots (considering early voting has already started in some states: very literally impossible.)... he still takes his cult with him, the won't vote for a republican if trump is excised from the party. They need trump to win: and he absolutely cannot win.

.....Wonko, I need you to put on some glasses. This is AFTER! the Orange Piss Pot takes office ok?

Ironbite-they wait 6 months, 25th him, and then take over the country.

Never! I paid a lot of money to get rid of my glasses!

So, 6 months AFTER his raving cult becomes his defacto militia? Yeah, won't happen then either.

Wonko has been consistently adamant that Trump cannot win, even in the post immediately preceding yours, and the math is starting to lean pretty convincingly on his side. If you want to talk to someone about what will happen after Trump wins, Wonko probably isn't your guy.

Thank you, Axaday.

But I did misinterpret what was written, and they were discussing the hypothetical. I missed the boat on that one. I mean: they're still wrong because the cult will revolt unless trump dies and it looks like natural causes, and even then... they literally run on conspiracy theories; he could keel over on stage live, and they will still blame someone else, then commit random and unconnected acts of violence because of all the threads of conspiracy only they can see.

Trump now says he wants to shut down the Department of Education.

If I am advising Trump, I tell him not to spout anything on the Project2025 list between now and election day.

I also advise him, not to run on big changes that he "could" have done last time and didn't, because a key area of attack for him against Harris that is his best shot at working is pointing out that she cannot be a change candidate because she lives inside the house. Don't leave yourself open to the same thing. It also leaves him vulnerable to one of the few hits that he actually landed in the debate when Kamala (unadvised by me) said she would sign a national protection for abortion and Trump pointed out that she would not be able to get that to pass. Don't tell people you're going to dismantle a Federal department if you aren't going to have 61 Senators that like the idea.

Red states are already attempting it by undermining public schools and their teachers and issuing school vouchers (functionally cash.) so families can send kids to private schools. The project 2025 bit is just the nationalized version of the plan.

Project 2025 or not, shutting down the DoE has been a dream of the GOP for literally decades. I don't think "this sounds too much like Project 2025" is something Trump needs worry about especially much in this instance.
