A Colorado judge has ruled that former President Donald Trump “engaged in an insurrection” on January 6, 2021, but rejected an attempt to remove him from the state’s 2024 primary ballot, finding that the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban” doesn’t apply to presidents.
he provision explicitly bans insurrectionists from serving as US senators, representatives, and even presidential electors – but it does not say anything about presidents. It says it covers “any office, civil or military, under the United States,” and Wallace ruled that this does not include the office of the presidency.

“After considering the arguments on both sides, the Court is persuaded that ‘officers of the United States,’ did not include the President of the United States,” she wrote. “It appears to the Court that for whatever reason the drafters of Section Three did not intend to include a person who had only taken the Presidential Oath.”

That is a bizarrely-specific oversight. Almost to the point where it makes me wonder if there was a specific Confederate Army vet they were hoping would run for President and win.

FB friend:
Trump's technique of responding to questions in court by ignoring them and launching into a grandstanding political diatribe is not original. His idol Adolf Hitler did EXACTLY the same thing when he was put on trial for his failed 1923 Munich coup attempt. And if you think Trump isn't copying Hitler on purpose, you are too naive for this world.

The only major difference is that Trump is much older than Hitler was and won't likely live to see the end point of his schemes. But it still sets the precedent for the next wannabe dictator, so it still needs to be stopped.

Trump's gag order has been reinstated:
"In a country where the First Amendment is sacrosanct, President Trump may not even comment on why he thinks he cannot get a fair trial," Kise said.
That's an interesting way to phrase "he should be able to tell people to harass the court staff if he wants to."

The First Amendment prevents Congress from making laws restricting free speech. It doesn't say "You can be an obnoxious threatening cockwad whenever you want with no consequences".

he feels safe saying this jive right now bc only fash "news" channels are paying attention to him and cheering this jive on, but when the mainstream/non-fascist news channels are forced to report on the jive he's been saying after he wins the primary, he's so fucked. he's basically just handing the dems more than enough ammo to obliterate him, and he's too goddamn stupid to realize it.

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

He couldn't win before: there's no path to the white house for the republicans in general right now, and trump in specific. jive like this just helps not only paint a worse picture of trump but of his cult as well.

Unless everyone else gets so apathetic and complacent and doesn't turn up to vote. So get out there, get registered, and get your ass in line.

Donald Trump saying "no violence" is like beer company ads saying "please drink responsibly". We all know it's a lie. We all know that the beer companies' whole business model is based on you NOT drinking responsibly, and we all know that Trump's whole political strategy is based on his followers NOT obeying the law.

Most of the clergy in Germany allied themselves with the Nazis in the 1930s, and then after the war, they all said "Never again".

Fast-forward to the present day, and another fascist has come along, and much of the clergy has allied themselves with him. Again.

Out of all the pictures arising from the fetid swamp that is the Trump era, I think this one photograph of Christian evangelical leaders worshipping their Orange Messiah best encapsulates what's wrong with American politics today.

Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis should capitalize on that.

"Do you want a candidate who would start with a -10 handicap in the electoral college?"
