Frankly I don't know why Hasbro would care. The continuity the Binder's for has been over for years now. And most of it, or at least a refinement of its ideas, got published in the Covenant.

This has been true for almost 20 years, but it still bemuses me to see Transformers be so mainstream…

Because "Grimlock" is a name that suggests high-speed data processing.
Grimlocks are also D&D monsters that have been around since at least the First Edition Fiend Folio (1981).

Internal codenames aren’t trademarked or used in marketing. It’s purely insider/internal stuff. Zen7 architecture will be marketed as “Ryzen AI Max 550 Plus Extreme” or some other unintelligible garbage since they dropped the 4xxx, 5xxx, etc type naming.

Notably, nVidia’s Tegra SoCs famously uses assorted comic book derived codenames. The original Switch hardware was the Tegra X1 (codenamed Erista, named after Wolverine’s son because the X1 was derived from the K1 “Logan”). The revised X1 was given the operating name “Mariko” (Wolverine’s love interest).
The current Switch 2 uses a customized Tegra from the “Orin” (aka, Ocean Master) line, referred to internally as “Drake” (as in, Tim Drake aka Robin)
Considering the Zen 5 or 6 series are codenamed “Medusa”…this might be the more “logical” source. It’s all nerd stuff anyway
