Reading the box thread, and was reminded of how when I first heard of Beast Machines, I thought "We had Beast Wars, and we had Machine Wars, I guess now they're combining the two?"

Which, I guess, kinda? But not really.

But that was me not really understanding what Machine Wars was at the time.

Anyone else think that the shield Optimus Primal used immediately upon his return was a part of his new arsenal/power set back in the day.

I remember seeing it, loving how he blocked all the Predacon fire, then returned with his own. Then I was surprised he never used it again, only to come to find out that's (presumably) because it was never a part of the toy!

Despite that, if/when we get a new Transmetal Optimus Primal, I wonder if he should come with the shield anyway..,

If Takara ever made an MP TM Primal, they'd include that.

If not, it'll be included with a third party upgrade kit. Along with articulated hands, gap fillers, and platform shoes.

But that shield was one of multiple that the Maximals had in their ship's arsenal. Cheetor and Optimus each used one in their attempt to rescue Dinobot from the Preds back in "Victory", and several were used to guard against Rhinox's sneezing in "The Low Road".

I started watching kinda late, so I'm not sure if I had seen those episodes before watching "Coming of the Fuzors". (Potential peril of syndication?)

I mean, I did notice that later at some point, but not when I first saw Primal whoopin' tailgate. It made more sense then, at least.

See, now they REALLY have to make one. Hell, include three.

I remember seeing them use the shield on tv as a kid and thinking it was Wolfang's shield. I didn't have a Wolfang, but to me it looked like the one he had on the (tiny) cross sell pictures. I think I only abandoned that notion once I was able to rewatch the show on my computer many years later.

Those shields made way more sense than using chunks of alt mode kibble. How can you be your own shield?

Just finished watching this video...

And a thought occurred to me.

This is Ravage.

You would be forgiven for not recognizing him there, because he's not drawn in his iconic
pose:

Ravage turns into a jaguar, and in Japan, his name is a Jaguar.

Is Ravage's pose just a legally-distinct riff on the Jaguar logo?

You'd have to ask the Micro Change packaging art artist since Ravage's G1 packaging art is lifted from the Micro Change packaging art.

Random thought of the day: Looking at Horri-Bull's pointy teeth and Tantrum's place in the Predacons, it's clear some poor Hasbro designer in the '80s had an unfortunate fear of having their steak turn the dinner tables on them.

Jeez, if they won that, they'd probably have slaughtered Hasbro if they had ever bothered. The Jacksonville one doesn't look anything like the car version!
