So not sure how many of you know of it, but recently, as of last August, I believe we got a Hex Girls Young Adult Book by Lily Meade.
'The Hex Girls: A Rouge Thorn'
So I recently bought it and read it.
It's interesting. Not too bad.
The biggest draw for me is that it's basically a direct sequel to 'A Witch's Ghost' with some tweaks.
Because of what happened in Oakhaven, Thorn's reputation is shot in the town, along with her father's. It leads to her having to leave, and she moves to Coolsvile, where the Scooby gang resides.
It changes a few things like making it so the gang is still in High school. One really weird change is the book doesn't have Scooby talk. He's there, but he acts more are less like a very intelligent dog. The most he does is whine and bark for speech.
Possibly because the author was afraid it'd clash with the more serious tone. Just a small warning:
All in all it reads out as a slightly more serious and darker version of Scooby Doo. You actually get to see a bit of insight to the characters of Fred, Daphne, and Velma. In fact Velma is at least Bi in this story as she and Thron have some sparks. So there is a little bit of romance.
Shaggy and Scooby kinda get the worst of it though, when it comes to characterization. Shaggy feels okay as Shaggy, but without Scooby talking they barely play any part in the story, though that's probably the point. The writer didn't want this to have the campyness.
Only other thing to mention is there seems to be a small bit of backlash on the author making the Hex Girls black. I can say after reading the book, the fact she changed their skin color to that has no effect on anything in the story at all. It's such a non-issue, but at the same time it does make me wonder why the change was made at all. I mean given it's a sorta sequel to the movie, I was picturing them looking as they did in that movie so it's not like it added anything to the character.
Though at the same time I feel it's a great testament that skin color doesn't matter, because they were still the Hex Girls.
