I'd suggest either the "fins" of the mace, or maybe the "spikes" on the shoulder and infront of the tank.

maybe the sides of the visible tank treads? The nerf gun only really had green on the cylinder which would translate to the cannon or the shoulder but those are visible in robot mode…

The way it is now, it’d pass for a Funpub exclusive of a half-way Megatron to Galvatron

Yes, I always felt like they used Classics as the starting point for his design. And this almost perfectly encapsulates it. Minus the "wings" that dont exist.
It's snuck up on me until now, but between that angular element on the chest and something about the way the helmet flares out but is rounded off, it definitely has those vibes.

Makes sense. Classics was the most recent major G1 Megatron design at the time of the WFC game development, not counting the deluxe tank.

It probably goes without saying, but I have the Classics Deluxe set, and I like it. I don't have the Voyagers.

I'm very high on the Voyagers and meh on the Deluxes, except for the United release of G2 Hero Megatron. I also liked the G1 colors one from Universe 2.0 Special Edition, shame I had to sell that.

I wish he had a better defined right hand. The rest of him is neat. The Optimus is nice and lithe, but the headsculpt, gimmick, and altmode all leave something to be desired.

Deluxe Optimus I thought was ok, not great, but I love Deluxe Megatron, though I use him as Megastorm

Deluxe Optimus felt like it was trying to compete with RobotMasters G1 Convoy over who could be the more awkward G1 Optimus at the Deluxe scale.

Years later, Studio Series Gamer Edition Devastation Optimus came along to really show them both how it's done.

The phrasing seems to suggest Devastation Op came along to show them how "[being an awkward G1 Optimus at the deluxe scale]" is done.

Devastation Op seems fine?
He's perfectly cromulent. His original reveal pictures did him no favours, as they showed off the figure in the worst light possible.

But it's actually a pretty solid Optimus Prime at the Deluxe scale. Devastation drew heavily from the Sunbow show for its aesthetics, and so he makes a nice companion prince with Legacy United G1 Optimus. Two Deluxe Primes, one who's incredibly G1 toy accurate, one who's incredibly G1 cartoon accurate.

Now I want to see THIS Deluxe Op in Magnus cab colors ...
Something about the Devastation OP mold has never quite jived with me - I think it's the wheelbase in vehicle mode, the truck's just too long with the legs not meaningfully collapsing.

That said, I'll echo my previous statement about Toy Universe Prime: Hasbro, I'll buy more Optimii if you do more varied redecos! Nightwatch, Naked Magnus, Powered Convoy, Hero, anything!

I just wish the mold could hold its guns in-hand.
