Question:

Has anyone ever done an Autobot version of Trypticon?

To be clear, I'm not talking about just swapping the faction symbol or Shattered Glass, I mean like what Metrotitan is to Metroplex.

I'm curious what something like that might look like. Would he have Dinobot colors? Or maybe more oranges and reds to Trypticon's purples and teals?

I'd suggest something akin to how Metrotitan seems to be wearing Ultra Magnus's colors, but that would kind of point to Galvatron, and... well, I kind of feel like that just gives us Trypticon again, so I'm not really sure that works.

Just something to ponder.

Negator is just Megatron with a different name.
Without the gun-turning-into-ness.

Anyway, as I read the CBS pitch, I was struck at how disconnected a lot of it was from the actual toys. Was the actual/prospective toyline aspect omitted, did they figure they'd match things up later, or what?

Or did they seriously plan on a toyline only vaguely connected with the TV show? I know it's been done (a lot of Robotech-branded toys, f'rinstance) but it seems like something you do later and not right out of the gate.

That page was an absolute trip to read. At almost no point did I know what the next sentence was going to say.
If you want more, there's a link at the bottom of the page to an audio drama recording of the scripted pitch episode "A Robot's Best Friend is His Dog", starring the likes of Gregg Berger (as Optimus Prime), Paul Eiding, David Kaye (as Negator, no less), Frank Todaro, and more. Specifically, the link is in the References section.

Sure, but I mean...

This is basically supposed to be Bumblebee, too, right?

But if you asked me to pick him out of a police lineup, I assure you there's a GoBot who's going to jail instead.

No, but his proposed alt modes were "laser tank" and "satellite particle beam cannon" so I picked a toy that's both a laser tank and a satellite.

Yeah, it's like... wow, for stuff that's made to sell toys, it's funny how wildly cartoons would diverge from the source material already, but this took it to a whole new level.

Yeah, it seems pretty clear that somehow the artist had been given Gobots Bug Bite as a reference instead of Bumblebee. The details aren't exactly 1:1, but it's definitely a lot closer than it is to the actual Bumblebee toy. One of the oddest aspects of all, to me, is that they decided that the character needed to be a convertible even though neither toy they could have possibly been referencing was.

The idea of Megatron Negator being so evil he may not even be an actual Cybertronian, but just an ancient evil computer puppeting a body is weirdly pretty intriguing.
Got some Star Trek TOS vibes.
Yeah, there's some interesting stuff in there, amidst the Hannah-Barbera vibe, disconnect with the toys, and so on. It's wild.

The electrical energy being part isn't really *that* different from how Sparks/laser cores are sometimes portrayed, or the Allspark, or Kremzeek. Largely a matter of focus and perspective.

I feel like someone at Hasbro also really liked this pitch and has been passing ideas from it to Paramount for years. As weird as it is, parts of it feel very familiar.
