One of my friends noted years ago that had Swindle been in the first live action Transformers movie it would have been over with quick, seeing as he'd probably have skipped most of the plot, not being above just clicking 'buy it now' and paying the human to mail the glasses to a PO box.

It can be tricky to make it good and acknowledge the joke without getting clunky about it. The Botcon 2012 encounter between Octopunch and SG Octopunch was... less than funny. (That SG Octopunch looked great though.)

Ben Yee did have a tendency to write rather humorless stories that tried to treat everything seriously, yeah.

The heroic SG Octopunch (SGOP) was facing off against G1 Octopunch (G1OP). G1OP starts monologuing in third person, SGOP is confused about why his opponent is is talking so glowingly about him, G1OP is confused why SGOP thinks he's talking about him, awkward silence when SGOP realizes he's fighting himself.

For me it's also the scene after, where SG Octopunch clunkily works in "I'm my own worst enemy" when reconnecting with his team.

There's more whiffs from that comic, but this is relevant to Octopunch and the discussion about same-name encounters.

I genuinely can't look away. Like, yes, the face, but the art style on everything else. The detail on those leaves. The adapted rendering of the Insecticons. The watercolor vibe and and mottled effect on the smoke. Thanks, John Speirs. (I assume the wiki art credit includes the cover.) Even the bold yellow of the logo, which seems like such an unusual choice now in the age of consistent branding, is very fetching.

Did a bit of looking and the interior art is also so pretty. That Ark is incredible! From the painterly art style to the off-model, impressionistic takes on what the Transformers look like... it's a pleasant look back at what kids' books used to look like.



You know, once you open that cover so you don't have to keep looking at that.
