It's funny to think of just how horrifyingly violent and gruesome this franchise could be right from the start, but they got away with it because they're robots.
And of course...
Yeah, but that's more recent. Look back at some of the stuff the original cartoon pulled. Could you imagine, say, GI Joe having an episode where Cobra Commander cut Duke into pieces, turned his body into a near-mindless beast to roam the sewers and bolted his arm onto a tower, and the other Joes have to use his talking head to put him back together? Or Bebop selling Rocksteady's shattered corpse to criminals and dictators around the world, them Shredder sticks a bomb in Bebop's head to make him go get it back?
I can now, and I want to see it!
This wasn't that bad. Beast wars did decapitations all the time: and we never even got to see the light leave his eyes.Case in point:
