How many decades before they stopped teaching cursive in school was the last time anyone needed to use it (except for signing their name) outside of school?
Quebec stopped teaching cursive just before my eldest nephew hit school. They will be teaching it again starting next year. So they quit it for a decade and brought it back. Turns out when you don't teach people how to write, then they can't hugging write.

AI is also a factor. We've had to switch to a heavier emphasis on in-class essay writing to combat students using AI to write papers and in so doing it's revealed just how bad the handwriting of students is when you don't teach them script when they're younger. So now everyone's getting back on board teaching cursive to youngsters so they'll have passable handwriting by the time they get to middle and high school.

You don't have to know how to write cursive in order to write neatly. But I also enjoy playing with font types and writing letters weird just for fun.
