I don't really want to make this into a gaming PC. But I just happened to think this morning that now that I have a Windows PC, I could probably get Killer Instinct, the one and only game that made me wish I had an X-Box. If I can make one of my PS5 or Switch Pro controllers work with it, even better. Thanks again, Wonko. May have to come to you for all my IT.

I was needing to upgrade from my aging desktop and long since retired HP laptop, so several months ago I purchased a refurbished Dell Precision 7750 laptop. It came with 64GB of RAM (can be doubled if I want,) a 1TB SSD (has 3 more M.2 slots,) and a Nvidia RTX 5000 dedicated graphics card with 16GB. The laptop's a model already a few years old, but I needed to find something that wasn't too expenisive for the things I want to do.

I did recently add a 2TB SSD for data storage and a 2nd 1TB SSD for installing a few versions of Linux. I've made this thing into a windows/linux multiboot system.

The screen it came with was crap, though, running at only 220 nits and 45% ntsc. So a couple weeks ago I upgraded the lcd to 100% DCI-P3/SRGB with 500 nits.

Think I'm finally happy with it.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Todays adventure in computing: Updating the bios... IN A THUNDERSTORM!!!!

Alright, so... it's a relatively minor storm. Just a touch of thunder and no rain. But... between the last windows update causing some rubberbanding in my internet connection (which was not there before.) and installing a borked nvidia driver update which lead to all kinds of fairly harmless, but visually distinct graphical issues... I wound up doing a full maintenance routine on my pc, including new board drivers, and the bios update.

It's an hour of my life I won't get back, and will take days to notice if it fixed anything... but at least the desktop squares are gone. That just took a reinstall of the Gamer ready drivers.
