Mario Kart World Direct!
Let's see if they can justify that price to me!
The offroad aspects look interesting. But, it seems like there's probably still one "optimal" path, so I'm not sure how much you'll actually be rewarding for exploring the course.
The best new racer...Cow! I do like that they're adding a bunch of new enemy racer options.
Rainbow Road is probably going to be pretty cool in this game. Wish we actually got to see it...
Peach's kimono looks nice. And Pirate Wario is fun. I do like some of the new costumes.
The Kamek item seems to do weird, random things. So, I guess it's kind of like this game's version of the Wonder Flower events. That's kind of neat.
There's a rewind feature. Okay, that's kind of useful for learning the track. All the other NPCs not being effected isn't the best, though. There is NO incentive to use this if you actually want to get wins to unlock stuff. I kind of wish the Rewind was locked to single player mode, just so it made it easier to win, and gave you a reason to use this in single player.
I was kind of hoping Free Roam would be hiding some sort of story or mission mode, and we are getting missions, of a sort. Not really a "story" as far as I can tell, so that's too bad. Still, it's another way to unlock stuff, I guess. Probably mostly more costumes and new karts? Again, I wish they would have gone into more detail.
Oh, and the Switch 2 Bundle with Mario Kart included digitally at a reduced price is only available until Fall of this year. (Whenever "Fall" is for Nintendo, if they're going to do stuff like this they really need to start giving us a cutoff date.) Not even until Christmas. That's great. Thanks, Nintendo. Do you need a set of pliers? Because I think there's still a handful of pennies you have yet to pinch.
They did not justify that price, to me.
This looks...like a really fun, really solid Mario Kart game. But, for me, it really needed some sort of x-factor to really make it must buy. A story mode or more of a reason to explore the tracks...something! This...just didn't do it, for me personally. I don't really see why this is $80.
Don't get me wrong, it looks fun. But $80 fun? For a racing game? When I have no one to play with? And you still have to pay for internet access separately via a NSO subscription? Especially when there's probably not going to be that many other new games that actually use online features at launch? And when this game will likely end up with TONS of DLC add-ons, to boot, raising the price even higher? Nah. I'm not that much of a Mario Kart guy, anyway, though, so mileage will vary. If they're hiding some sort of killer app or crazy awesome mode that changes everything...well, they should have revealed that HERE. This needed to be something really special for me to justify that price. And this just didn't sell me on it. I think this is a skip for me.
Honestly? To me, it feels like Nintendo is trying to get the players to pay for their screwup on this one. Because, chances are, there have been developmental problems with this game behind the scenes. I feel like this game has probably been in some stage of development ever since Mario Kart 8 released in 2014. Nintendo probably didn't PLAN on having Mario Kart 8 be the Swtich 1's main Mario Kart game. This game has probably had some rough developmental stories that we'll probably never hear about. If you consider that this game has probably been in development for over 10 years, the price kind of makes sense. But, I feel like if there were problems behind the scenes, it's kind of wrong for Nintendo to make US pay for that. That's on Nintendo. They should have eaten the development costs, if my completely made-up scenario is in any way true. If this isn't the case, then I really don't understand the $80 price tag at all.
