According to a display industry analyst from South Korea, Nintendo is considering releasing a Switch 2 handheld console with an OLED display. While there has been speculation that Nintendo will announce a Switch 2 OLED version, the company is currently evaluating whether this option is financially feasible. If Nintendo determines that it makes financial sense, the company plans to start development towards the end of this year, with mass production targeted for the end of 2027. This would set an early 2028 goal for the market launch. If the decision is made to proceed, it is likely that Samsung Display will supply a rigid OLED panel for the Switch 2 OLED version. However, there is a significant price difference between the current 1080p LCD panel and a potential rigid OLED touchscreen display, with the LCD version reportedly being much cheaper.

I remember reading somewhere that LCD panels can actually be made huge and then sliced up into whatever smaller sizes the factory has a demand for that day, provided all the smaller panels they need are the same dot pitch. I'm guessing one issue making OLED so much more expensive is that you can't do that, and have to make them all custom?

The Witcher 3 is being updated for Switch 2 late september.
I bought Metal Gear Solid Master Collection in cartridge form for Nintendo Switch but then decided I'd purchase Metal Gear Solid 4 for Nintendo Switch 2 but went and bought the collection digitally only to find people saying the Switch version is updated to the switch 2 version on Switch 2 consoles. I really should have checked that but after Sonic Frontier and Final Fantasy X, who can blame me?

Eh, by and large Sega and Square’s decision to force the purchase of an entire new release seems the anomaly. Most lower tier developers are offering the upgrades for free and others are charging nominal fees for the Switch 2 benefits. Few are being douches enough to force a full price game repurchase. (Aside from the ones that have completely abandoned their Switch 1 games, at least)

Big week coming! Nintendo has not one, but TWO Directs planned for next week, the 8th and the 9th.
September 8 will be a Zelda Direct, where we are expected to get details for the OoT remake and associated swag and possibly some stealth drops (like the LONG rumored Wind Waker HD port?). It also wouldn’t be surprising if they dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming live action film due next May. September 9 is looking like an all purpose “fall/holiday” direct, covering the platforms’ expected releases, though there’s always a chance of a surprise.

So, the Mario Kart 8 update... I'm confused, is there not cross-play between Switch 1 and Switch 2 users? Because the update makes changes to the core mechanics that would need to apply to both versions if there was cross-play. But also I can't imagine why they'd want to split the player base like that. (Then again, there wasn't cross-play between the WiiU and Switch versions either.)

Nintendo might have had some server…quibbles..in the last day or so. That might be part of the reason for any cross play issues. At least your console didn’t get banned!

Just to be fair... I have trouble believing it when it's a few reddit posts. That easily extends into mass hysteria bullshit.

Already seen some of the Steam Fanboys going on about how this is a "Test" to kill all switches.. .and how they are glad Steam can't possibly do this!!! *Steam Can. So can Sony, So can Microsoft*

I love how Nintendo's solution to piracy is to block people's devices from playing games that are not pirated. Gee, I wonder what they could possibly do to work around that.

Why are you acting as if that's Nintendo's policy... and not EVERYONEs?

As far as I know, Valve does not spy on people's PCs to see if they have pirated games on them.

The full direct for today. Not horrible, but I think we've fallen to the point where Switch 2 is catching up to other 3rd party consoles and after being spoiled by a massive backlog during the early Switch 1 days, Nintendo's slate has slowed. Or, Nintendo saw the success the WiiU ports to the original, and misconstrued that success to simply being sprucing up and porting Switch 1 games to the Switch 2.
There's some solid titles coming...but all are available everywhere else.

I DID find Bloober Team's Onyx fascinating and the system remains the pre-eminent home for JRPGs. Bluey's Happy Snaps is amusing to me as few other games seemed to jump off of Pokemon Snap's core gameplay. I'd be excited for FarCry 3: Blood Dragon, except I don't know what bull UbiSoft is going to burden it with.

I'm a "wait and see" on Metroid Ravenous. Nintendo's lack of fuss and early release date says they don't have much interest in the franchise (despite the Special Edition release). The little bit of gameplay looks like it was built on Dread's foundation, so we'll see. Open world Kirby looks like a solid spiritual successor to Mario Odyssey/Breath of the Wild. I like the various abilities seem to have multiple uses in both combat and traversal, and seem to be a stand in for Odyssey's possession ability.

But if Prime 4 didn't get me to upgrade, then I'm not sure Ravenous will either. But that likely price increase is still hanging over our heads...

Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to the Switch 2! Neat! It's always a solid franchise. And it's associated DLC is coming too, of course.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation (AKA 3) is coming! Cool! I'll admit, I am curious about how the ending will change in this version. Plus, Crisis Core Reunion is coming out RIGHT NOW! Shadow drops are fun.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Definitive Edition! (Woof, that's a mouthful!) I already have the Switch version, so I'm good, but this is nice for anyone who hasn't checked it out before. It's got a performance boost, all the DLC, and a harder difficulty mode. So...there's at least a *little* bit of new stuff here.

Meccha Chameleon! What...a strange little game? You're a little man walking around trying to blend into the background. I guess this is a interesting take on the classic game of hide and seek. It's not for me, since this seems to be a multiplayer-only game, but I appreciate the odd creativity.

Pokopia Expansion Pass...Part 2! Everyone gets sunglasses and pretty bows...NO EXCEPTIONS! It's pretty cute. Not the most substantial update, but I'm betting people will have fun styling the Pokemon living in their towns.

The Star Fox remake is getting a split-screen multiplayer battle mode. That...probably should have been in the game at launch, but better late than never, I guess.

Star Fox Adventures for the Gamecube is coming to NSO! Neat! Always glad to see more games getting added to the service.

Witcher 3 is coming. It's a good game. No complaints, there. Plus...a new DLC is coming later? Huh, seems a little late for new DLC for that game, but cool, nonetheless.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I...don't know anything about this game, but maybe it's worth looking more into?

Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave! Still looking good!

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam! It's about time we got a update on this game! We've been waiting a bit! Supposedly, this is the biggest selection of puzzles in the series history, which is...a little intimidating, actually, but still good news!

YOKAI WATCH RETURNS FROM THE GRAVE! Yokai Watch 2 Haunted Domain! It's...only entering development, now. So, we'll see if this actually gets finished and released in the West. And I have NO FAITH that it'll actually end up releasing on Switch 2, we might have to wait for the Switch 3 for that. But, I'd actually be all for a return of Yokai Watch, even if it IS only a remake. (Maybe they could start by actually finishing the dub of all the various anime...)

Pikmin 4 is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. You can give voice commands to your dog, cute. And there's a new Dandori Academy time-challenge mode, neat! 72 more Dandori stages sounds like a lot. Well, this is going to make Arlo super-happy, at least.

Onyx the Dark Grip! Moody, atmospheric...and MAYBE a little pretentious? It could be a pretty solid point-and-click puzzle game, even though I'm not the biggest fan of the art style.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is getting a Switch 2 Edition. It has a new "Hero's Vault" mode where you take on wave after wave of enemies, rouge-like style. Interesting. AND there's a new character to add to the party. Well, that should be fun!

Stage Fright! Oh, now this looks like it has a bit of style! I like the slighty spooky atmosphere, like a spooky kids movie. This may be one to keep a eye on.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is getting The Little Mermaid DLC! Okay, that's pretty cute, I'm a sucker for pretty underwater areas. Wow, Milo from Atlantis is here, that's kinda a deeper cut than I expected.

Ondeh Ondeh Kaya's Tasty Tale! Okay, here's another game with a lot of style! I like this storybook art style. *Googles* apparently Onde-onde is Malaysian dumplings. It's one I want to keep a eye on, at least.

Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight is coming! I hear good things about the game.

New Kirby Air Riders Amiibo are coming! Sword Kirby on Dragoon (the fancy white and rainbow ride) and Noir Dedede on Hydra (the spoiler window has closed, I guess.). Apparently, this will probably be the end of the Air Riders Amiibo. And there's going to be some sort of in-game event...to be revealed later.

Cairn. Where you're climbing a mountain, while uncovering it's forgotten history. Well, this has "indie darling" written all over it, for good or for ill.

The Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 Remakes are coming! Not as a collection, but still, that's a lot of Evil taking up Residence.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis! A remake of the original Tomb Raider! This could be fun. It looks pretty nice.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Not my kinda game, but I'm glad it exists for others. The jellyfish girl is cute.

METROID RAVENOUS! Now we're talking! New 2D Metroid! This generation can finally begin! And it seems like...STUFF is going on with this story. COOL STUFF! This looks so stylish and fun. And it's coming out January 28. That's...both sooner AND later than I expected, somehow. Weird to not release this before Christmas, but whatever, I guess. Also, Amiibo! And a special edition...that seems to come with a exclusive Amiibo and a steelbook. Nintendo's really pushing the Amiibo, lately.

Classic SNES courses are coming to Mario Kart World. I guess fans wanted more "classic" style Mario Kart courses for this game? It's a free update and it's available today so...go get it!

Mega Man Dual Override! And we get to see some Protoman gameplay! The game's looking solid! And we're getting new Mega Man and Protoman Amiibo. Okay, since this is a non-Nintendo franchise, I'll allow it. But, seriously, maybe slow down on the Amiibo?

Eternal Anima! Oooh...JRPG goodness! Yeah, I could see picking this up! It's got some classic style to it. It looks like it could be fun.

Danganronpa 2x2! Might be worth checking out. Plus, there's a new story mode.

Fatal Fury City of the Wolves! And...it's getting DLC characters from...Tokyo Revengers?! I've been watching that anime on Toonami, and I've been enjoying it well enough. Weird pull, but I can respect it.

Metal Slug Ultimate Collection! These are good arcade games. And you should play them if you already haven't. They've been ported to a lot of stuff, though, so you may have already played through them multiple times.

Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force GX! Uh...what? Why are they remaking a GX-era video game? Well...it's kind of a cool move...I guess. I guess I AM a little nostalgic for that anime, at this point. So, sure...why not?

Romancing SaGa 3 Destinies United! The "classic" SNES game is getting a full 3D remake! I've heard...mixed things about the original game. The SaGa games can be...a lot. But, this might be worth checking out.

Lightning Round! 007 First Light. Far Cry 3 AND 3 Blood Dragon. The Crew Motorfest. The Apothecary Diaries?! (That's another manga I enjoy, but I wasn't expecting the game to show up in a Direct!) House Flipper 2. Sonic Pico Park. (ALL your Sonic the Hedgehog OCs are canon!) Hela. (It sure feels like there's been a lot of mouse-adventure games, recently, or is it just me?) Eriksholm. The Ascent. It Takes Two. Palia. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush. Fading Echo. Hell is Us. Guardians of the Galaxy Encore Edition.

There's a Dragon Quest Monsters Withered World demo available today. That's worth pointing out. And Torneko's Mystery Dungeon HD is available...NOW! Again, shadowdrops are fun.

Stellar Blade Complete! Featuring Bayonetta!

Bluey's Happy Snaps! Hooray! It actually looks like there's some nice animation in here.

Persona 4 Revival! Nice!

PERSONA 6?! Which is...even more mysterious and vague than the last trailer we got? Okay, fine.

KIRBY! AND! THE WORLD BEYOND! The Kirby fans continue to be amongst the most well-fed fans of anything on Nintendo consoles! Looks like we're sticking with a 3D world. And...it's even more open than before! A true open-world Kirby! Huh. Well, that could be fun.

OH! The world...has a ceiling. That you can break through. Well, this suddenly got VERY Truman Show-esque! The world is a simulation and we all just have to live with it. Good thing our abductor is such a little cutie!

And we're getting big, flaming energy weapons as our new gimmick in this game. That's...SO COOL! I am but a simple man. If you show me a flaming sword, I'm gonna think it's cool.

What horrifying Lovecraftian abomination will our adorable pink puffball annihilate this time? I'm gonna guess this time it's gonna be...ears. Like a Bibically accurate angel made of ears. Nintendo has been doing a lot with voice-recognition tech lately due to the Switch 2's new microphone, so I think that's the most likely route they'll go with this time around. My prediction is that aliens walled off Kirby's world because they were being too noisy. What with their cake-eating and butterfly-chasing and whatnot.

Plus, Kirby's having his 35th anniversary next year. And you KNOW they'll go all out for Kirby. Because Kirby gets EVERYTHING! NO EXCEPTIONS!

You know what? That was a solid Direct. Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond were definitely the highlights, for me. But, I'll admit, I was surprised by Yokai Watch and Yu-Gi-Oh GX of all things making a return. And stuff like Mega Man Dual Override, Ondeh Ondeh, and Eternal Anima are looking pretty solid! The Switch 2 is ever so slowly growing it's library of games.
