There will be an awful lot of third party Game key's on this system, I think Nintendo might refrain from that though.

I do wish that there was some kind of industry standard that required game packaging to tell you if the game is actually on the cards or if you're just buying a game key. Like seriously, when it comes to game keys, they might as well just make you buy it digitally. That's pretty much what it amounts to anyway.

FWIW, the Zelda upgrade packs are being included with the Switch Online Expansion Pass. So if you already buy into that, you'll still get the upgrades without paying extra.

Again, I'll roll the dice, but with recent news that Best Buy won't have online stock for the next week? And I'm not sure I want to deal with Walmart? I might just bide my time. Again, my big game is Metroid, which is already slated for the base system, so we'll see how things shake out.

Trying to decide if it's worth it to go to the midnight launch to pick up my Gamestop preorder. Has anyone done one of these in modern times? Would it be my best shot at getting an extra pair of joycons since I wasn't able to preorder them?

Decided it was the best shot to get a joycon pair that I couldn’t get preordered. I went to GameStop this afternoon to prepay and reserve a slot in line tonight and grabbed the joycons as well as the pro controller. I cancelled my pro controller preorder at Target since it wasn’t going to arrive until next week.

Sony had a State of Play. While a good chunk was directed to the Playstation audience, there were a number of titles that I expect to come to the Switch platform (one or both versions):
007 First Light has already been confirmed for Switch 2 by IOI Interactive. Lumines Arise is a new entry in the puzzle series from the Tetris Effect developers. Ninja Gaiden Ragebound is a new metroidvania from the developers of Blasphemous. MGS3 Remake, I think, is also confirmed for Switch 2. Digimon Story Time Stranger will be multiplatform. Everybody's Golf Hot Shots was already revealed for the Switch.

Bloodstained: Scarlett Engagement is due next year. Sequel to the Kickstarter darling, the game is REALLY leaning into its Castlevania roots. I actually though Konami might have contracted the developer to make it, given the story elements are DRIPPING Castlevania. Due next year, Switch 2 is all but guaranteed, Switch 1 is unlikely given issues with the original.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is coming September 30. In addition to a new enhanced version will full voice acting, you can opt to the play the original Playstation version with the improved translation from "War of the Lions".

A big release for me was the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. From the guys at Digital Eclipse (who have done the FANTASTIC "playmentaries" like Tetris Forever, Atari 50, and banged out the solid TMNT Cowabunga Collection), they've turned their eyes to the iconic fighting franchise. In addition to all the classic arcade games, home ports are confirmed, plus the GBA entries. All with online support. AND, like Atari 50 and Llamasoft, full behind the scenes documentation and videos.
This is the playable list, with more to be confirmed:
  • Mortal Kombat – 1992: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
  • Mortal Kombat II -1993: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
  • Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES, Genesis
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES
  • Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997: Arcade
  • Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001: Game Boy Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002: Game Boy Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003: Game Boy Advance
  • ???
Some notable omissions: Mortal Kombat Trilogy PSX, 8 bit versions of MK2 and 3, the Saturn version of UMK3 (the 16-bit and 32-bit home ports were different games), a console version of MK4 (maybe MKGold from the Dreamcast?), and MK Mythologies. I'm surprised the post-MK4 GBA titles are present here, I figure stopping at 4 would be a natural "end point" for the "Klassic era" of the franchise.

Congrats I absolutely can not wait until I get off work today.
Not unless you got one ordered :p

Walmarts around me are already sold out. Not a surprise given they are the ONLY option within 30 minutes of here.
Target, supposedly, has stock, but I don’t want to drive 45 minutes to get there at opening among a throng of people. Some interesting observations on game supplies: Mario Kart, Cyberpunk and Split Fiction all have 5 copies at my nearest store, with Rune Factory, Yakuza, Bravely Default, and the Zelda upgrades having between 1-2 copies available. So either nobody is buying those first 3, or Target ensured plenty. Or the other games’ inventories are tied up in pickup orders. Supposedly, Target will have the system available for online sales starting tomorrow.

Best Buy, as stated, isn’t even offering online sales for the console for the next week.

Amazon doesn’t even have the console links publicly available, at the moment.

Step by step, this was my morning

1. Well, it'll be here by 10:00 tonight. Probably not going to arrive before I absolutely have to leave for work. No point in waiting.

2. Pull into the parking lot at work.

3. Get notification "your delivery is 1 minute away.

4. Speed back home (and I do mean "please don't let there be any cops" type speeding in the rain).

5. Don't even shut off the engine. Just hop out, grab the package and go.

6. Speed back to work and clock in, still on time.

7. Open package.

8. Wow! Walmart really hooked me up with some SourCream and Onion Pringles and a Coke!

9 Holy jive! This is the bundle version! I mean yeah, what I paid was a bit much for the base package, but I just figured that was sales tax and delivery fees. I thought they were out of the bundles. But holy jive, I got one!

Noticed this morning that Gamestop sold me their generic case that is compatible with Switch 2 and Switch 1, despite the preorder picture at the store being the official case. Heading back after work to return it. I'd rather have what I was told I was getting.

I was at Walmart a few hours ago, and I saw over half a dozen of the base Switch 2 available in store (despite the app saying it was completely unavailable). No bundles, though.
If this is fairly widespread, maybe pure system access will be solid through the year. The only way I'd be willing to drop the money RIGHT NOW is for the Mario Kart bundle, given the savings on the game itself (which has NO savings when purchased online). I see no rush to get the base system at full price at this moment since the big game for me is still off in the far future of "TBD 2025".

I did look over accessories and games and have some observations:
SanDisk is, again, overcharging for their MicroSD Express cards with Nintendo branding. ANY MicroSDE card will work, to the point Walmart's house brand, Onn, were offered right next to them at half the price.
Of the half dozen games available (Rune Factory was MIA for Switch 2, but present for NSW1), ALL of them were "Game Key cards" except for Mario Kart and Cyberpunk. Nintendo was the first to $80, maybe they'll be the first to push out "physical copies" at retail if all the 3rd parties are doing this garbage.

Viola posted this elsewhere:
Some folks are reporting damage to their Switch 2's from retailers stapling the receipts to the box and puncturing the screen.

One Gamestop in the New York/New Jersey area was doing that. Gamestop is gonna do the right thing and offer replacements and the head of the manager who did that.

A co-worker told me about that. I was absolutely shocked...until I heard the name Gamestop.

Today I went with my friend to get him his Switch 2. (He pre-ordered, so we didn't have to rush) While in line for his, since I didn't have a Switch to buy, I went in to just look around. I was able to see their Switch 2 accessories and saw they didn't have the Pirana Plant camera. (Which I want)

I looked it up on my phone and it said the Target across the street had 3 in stock. So I was like: Cool!

I put in my order and got one.

Stupid me forgot it says "We'll get that together in a couple of hours"

Guess what wasn't in stock by the time they finally got to my order?:(
