The Fate of Micronauts (2020).

So, quick recap on where we were and how we got here:
Hasbro managed to secure the rights to Micronauts around 2009, on the back of the success of Transformers and its sequel, eyeing the property as another potential film adaption with Paramount. Around 2014, Hasbro was apparently eyeing a relaunch associated with Transformers, but was scuttled for a bigger push later, especially as Star Trek director JJ Abrams expressed interest in the property. Things were quiet until 2019 when a writer/director were selected...but Paramount finally removed their title from their schedule in 2020. Back around 2019 (?) , an Allspark Animation license catalog was found, which confirmed the existence of a (completed) Micronauts cartoon.
Meanwhile....
The WGA (Writers Guild of America) is preparing to go on strike. Among the the many issues at the heart of this strike are issues resulting from the changes in how content is consumed, particularly on TV. Between shorter seasons, and the rise of streaming (which has eliminated the typical "Fall-Spring" television airing season and created new issues in terms of residuals), writers are seeking compensation. One issues that seems to have arisen is dealing with complete, or near complete, projects that are cancelled. Batgirl being a huge example of a project, nearly complete, but got scuttled for tax reasons. As a result, NOBODY involved can claim credit for something that is not released.

Well, according to writer Eric Rogers (who shared a post from staff writer Mitchell Golden), that's what happened with the 2020 Micronauts cartoon. The 52 (!) episode series was complete in January 2020. Hasbro ultimately decided to shelve the series because they wanted the film to hit first (perhaps wanting to avoid the Flex Fighters flop?). But, Hasbro and Paramount could never get the film made, so Hasbro wrote off the series as a tax write off. This is particularly odd as 2020 resulted in a "streaming gold rush" as people jumped on streaming services during the pandemic. And with live action productions paused for months, a completed cartoon series should have been an easy sell to SOMEONE.

The end result was that, because it was never released, the writers (and other staff) that worked on the series were "left with a 3+ year gap" on their resumes. That's a major issue behind the writers' strike.

There are 52 episodes of a Micronauts cartoon that were 100% complete and ready to air and there is a very good chance that no one will ever get to see them due to phenomenal stupid corporate BS.

That's a damn crime.

-ZacWilliam, I mean I already supported the writers 200% but seriously this crap needs to stop.

The whole thing leaked! Finally!

-ZacWilliam, someone save it to hard drive QUICK!

Edit: Just watched the first episode. That was fun. Nice use of the Micronauts toyline stuff to make an all new story in the spirit of the original. It looks like it would have been a cool show. I'd like to watch more but it's 3am and I have a busy day coming up. Hope it's all still there in the morning to watch more. I have no idea how to save anything from there to my Hard drive or it'd be done.

Dang, I wish I had space for that.

Hmm... "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Habsro, Inc."

Seems legit.

Just checked and despite it saying that the videos are still available.

-ZacWilliam, I've saved the first 6 or so to a drive here. Unfortunately I am pretty busy today so I doubt I'll have a chance to save all 52

Y'know, guys? I think the secret is out. I got nearly a dozen episodes downloaded without issue, but then things have ground to a halt. I'm trying to get like the first dozen and last dozen as priority, but we'll see how much I get before it all disappears.

I watch the first ep but I want to see the last ep.

I heard Megatron (?) and space bridge used as terms. It's Transformers!

Finally had time to watch episode 2, which together with 1 seem to make up the shows "pilot" story.

I like the way the characters remix the components of the original Marvel team in such a way as it feels like it while being its own: Like Phen is the Space Glider (Commander Rann) the Girl fighter (Marionette) and the Rogueish one (Bug). Zand is the weird spindly little alien comic relief guy (Bug) but also the voice of reason/diplomat (Marionette and Biotron). Pellan is the Acroyear (Acroyear) and the square-jawed Hero/Leader (Rann). It makes them all feel "right" while being different guys.

I also like that you can see what the toy gimmicks were meant to be. Robots combine with Karza. Heroes accessories combine to form armor.

-ZacWilliam, watching episode 3 now, my connection where I am traveling right now is such that I can watch it in 5 minute chunks separated by 10 minutes of downloading wich is not ideal, but hey watching this show at all still seems a blessing.

Finished episode 3:

Plot: Oberon accidentally triggers something hidden in Biotron that turns him from BayMax-IMac into Hulked-out Evil Ant-man. They fix him until a jerk kid from Cam's school mistakes him for a robot toy and steals him and triggers it again. Together they are able to track and trap him (by combining Acroyear's wings and Oberon's spider legs into a cage.) Oberon thinks he has stopped it from happening again but "what the heck is going on with Biotron" remains an ongoing mystery.

New Developments:
1) Supporting Cast for Cam is introduced - Single Mom, Jerk not-friend kid, and Girl he's crushing on.
2) Cam's connection with the team deepens as he accidentally endangers Biotron and the city by trying to use the Micronauts to impress Mark and learns his lesson.
3) They double down on the point subtly hinted at in the pilot episodes that there's something weird going on with Biotron. He was ancient and never worked. Auto Activated during Karza's attack. Has a name which apparently his type of robot doesn't. Has circuitry weird and complex that Oberon has never seen the like of before. And when he went evil was apparently making a b-line for Karza's new base.

-ZacWilliam, a good episode that suggests there will definitely be character centric subplots continuing through the show.

Netflix had a cgi show with action toys fighting toys. I forgot the title but the tiny adventures of the Micronauts makes me think of it.

Edit - found it. It's Power Players

So it got taken down finally a day or two ago.

I remain THRILLED it leaked at all but the timing on the show getting posted was awful for me. We were heading out on a trip that morning and only got to download and save a few episodes before we had to go.

And of course it's gone now.

Did anyone get the whole thing saved? Anywhere to still watch?

-ZacWilliam, really wanted to watch the whole thing and almost any other time would have likely been able to download them all.

I got tied up with work all weekend, so what I got is what I got. I probably managed to get about a quarter to a third of the series. I prioritized the clusters around every 13 episodes (the typical “season break” point), but I’m not going to be able to look over what I got for another day. I'm still miffed at the hassle I had to do (I had to hit every single episode instead of a single "batch" file), which probably contributed to some of the issues I had grabbing them.

But…it’s out. And once leaked, this is something that can never be “unleaked”, so I’m sure there will be random Youtuber uploads and torrent hostings.

Update: Just checked, I managed 22 episodes. But that does include the first 10 and final 4 of the series, so we'll see how it shakes out. Again, I'm not at all concerned with this stuff slowly filtering out through the web.
In all fairness, it kind of tickles me since I can recall MANY a series that I only caught in pieces until widespread digital availability. It's like in the 90s when you might only have access to a handful of episodes that might have made their way to VHS :p

I got episodes 1 to 7 and 9 (stupid #8). I know once somethings out on the internet it's generally "out for good" but it's still one of those things where until I have them saved I'm gonna wonder "What if this is the ONE time" no one happened to grab it all. :p

-ZacWilliam, if it had gone up any other weekend.
