I love the idea of big Constructicons myself. I've had Hercules in combined mode for probably 15 years now and never separated him so the combined mode height is really what matters more to me. I've always envisioned Devastator as being the biggest combiner anyway (whether fiction agrees with that or not) so that would be fine with me if he is a couple of heads bigger than everyone else.

Yeah, I do like the idea that Devestator is a level above your standard combiners. Like in the '86 movie where, since it takes place after Season 2 of the cartoon, combiners on the battlefield have become pretty commonplace, the appearance of Devestator is still treated like a major event. I know there are real-world reasons for that being the case, but in-universe it works.

Liokaiser costs $515 here, the character means pretty much nothing to ne and the engineering doesn’t impress me so I'm not buying that thing. At the same time, these sets are closer to $80 since we get these at local hobby/toy stores. Kind of a nobrainer for me personally.

Bought an additional Animated Magnus hammer because I decided to give my Prime forge of Solus to Solus and Magnus couldn’t hold it all that well. It’s basically thehammer from the Animated Prime trailer with the head’s colors inverted with blue head and black middle and the clear parts changed from blue to yellow. Out of the box, it is color matched to Legacy Animated Optimus. Repainted it to match Magnus but wow the camera is not doing the color matching any favors. All in all, the various parts fit well and can be easily disassembled for customization. Pretty good for like 8 bucks.

Got the legs in. Thing’s solid as a rock in-terms of stability. Hips are secure and the legs attach with seven separate connections. This set really is an insane value and even if a hypothetical better devastator happens, the small innovations like the crane being a cannon, the swapped formation and the built in combiner parts makes this thing stand out. The simple effective transformations are icing on the cake.

gonna paint the toes green/purple on bonecrusher and Scavenger respectively though. The silver’s not bad but I dunno, I’d prefer to keep the original configuration’s “symmetrical but different colors” thing with the treads going. Gonna wait for the arms to try. I feel there’s not enough purple on the combined mode but I’d like to be certain. Also planning to add more purple to the combined gun so it makes more sense to do everything in one go.

Megatron & Mangamaton looks are like they are thinking the same thing "FEET!!!" While Jetfire is like "Oh, there is something intersting over there, I wonder what it is?" Unicron is like "Ah, lunch is served, bon appetit!!"

These two are pretty much identical aside from the chests and vehicle parts. The arms, legs and internal torso parts are shared. I like the detail of the miner’s lights on the usual g1 design. Articulation is decent but the double jointed elbows and knees are really nice. Bonecrusher’s knee shovels restrict articulation a lot though. Eyes light up with a magnetic LED system. The guns are mostly identical but have different peg and port placements for combined mode. They both have magnets built in to activate the eyes.

Transformation for the two is alright. Identical for the most part aside from the steps for the vehicle kibble. Relatively simple and logical though some clearance issues arise if certain steps aren’t done in a specific order. Not bad at all.

Vehicle modes are adequate but oddly flattened and long for the type of vehicle they’re supposed to be. No wheels for rolling but have decent undercarriage storage for guns. These two don't really have a lot of vehicle playability. Bonecrusher is a brick and scavenger’s shovel has decent articulation. Nothing to write home about.

These are going to be my Vehicon navy escort flyers. They escort the Vehicon drop ships and provide close air support during landing operations. That's why they sport a different head than the normal Vehicon flyers.

The heads do have some inexplicable "Navy" quality to them, don't they? I do love this sort of "multiple generic types" thing.

Holy crap. This is the gold standard for combiners. Decent articulation, no added giant robot body parts, all three modes are good, articulation is decent, transformation’s under control and even has nifty bonuses they really didn’t have to add like LEDs and die cast. Really provides some bang for the buck. Looking forward to their next release.

Got this guy in the mail as well. He’s a smidge too big but I prefer that to the smidge too small siegewave did. This is the guy who can beat up Megatron and take on all the dinobots at the same time time after all. Altmode is a flying cannon which is the usual cybertronian greeble pile but hey it works for Shockwave and it manages to hide most robot parts away aside from the head and chest which are supposed to be front and center anyway. I didn't dislike the Siege’s battleship but it wasn’t great and the resulting super mode wasn’t worth the clunky transformation.

A bit of yellow paint on the eye and he’s good to go, though I do think red might suit the design better despite being accurate for nothing except maybe how Prime Shockwave is supposed to be the same guy. The purple really is a nice shade but wish the clear parts were a bit brighter.

painted the area around the eye black to contrast the yellow even more. Turned out real clean, mainly because the head falls apart so easily. It’s an easy fix with a dab of glue but i am confused by how that got out of the factory. I love how the clear purple looks when the light hits it but unfortunately the gun and chest are just too deeply embedded in opaque that it doesn’t work. Overall, it’s not bad at all but I’d have liked something more like the official toy’s fluorescent pink.

Vehicle mode’s the FOC shockwave flying gun but not quite as sleek because physics. It gets the job done, though personally i prefer to think about it as a satellite laser that can readjust its position than a jet. The wings can peg together for some reason maybe for a gun mode but in practice, the shape of the wings would require a really big hand to hold it.

So it turns out Sentinel’s generic big Riobot stand uses a 5mm peg so I don’t have to disassemble Deathsaurus’s throne. he comes with a two part blast effect that can also work as an exhaust effect. It’s 5 mm so compatible with official toys but it’s damn heavy.

Oh man that is a gorgeous purple.

And yes, painting the area around the eye is necessary. Nice job. I'm not generally into WFC/FOC designs but I love what I'm seeing here.

It's a really, really nice shade of purple. The pic where the "face" is still silver is the closest I got it in these shots. It's similar to the G1 toy but a little bit lighter, which is perfect for Shockwave as far as I'm concerned. It also has just a hint of metallic to it
