Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness Redux

I don't know how many people here are family with this game. It's a revamp of the original TMNT rpg by Palladium Books. The interesting fact about the original TMNT and Other Strangeness game is that it was based solely on the Mirage Comics because it pre-dates the TV show and toylines. It's very much its' own thing. Years later, the license lapsed after the cartoon hit the big time.

Well after almost 30 years the game is back. Even if you've never played the first version the new version has a lot more clarity on the rules and how to play. In fact, the core book is actually 3 books from the original game - the core book, Truckin' Turtles and Turtules go Hollywood.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday but I'm pretty happy with all the improvements. If you're played any Palladium games in the past then you understand why it needed more clarity on a lot of the rules and a few refinements. But otherwise it's the same basic game with all the original art that's been colorized.

I rolled up my first character this evening just to give it a test drive.
He ended up with the "family pet" origin. When he was a baby piglet the kids on the farm thought it would be cute to name him bacon. They didn't know he was a boar and not a pig, and they certainly didn't know he'd learn to walk and talk.
Years later he still lives on the farm, the kids are long gone but the old Jenkins folks still putter around. He's pretty handy around the place. He can hunt, fish, shoot and keeps the beat up truck running. They still have a hard time as seeing him as anything but a pet, though, which is why he still lives in the shed.
It's always fun to imagine and fill in the bits to the random rolled characters (origins, animal, etc). I wouldn't have ever said "Self, why not make a boar who lives on a dump of a farm." but here we are.

I'll post up his complete character sheet after I make a few more refinements.

I remember seeing the ads for this back in the day, but not quite understanding what it was.

It's like D&D except with mutant animals in modern day. Essentially. You can play as the turtles themselves but making your own unique characters is infinitely more fun.

Oh, yeah, I know that now. ;P

Pre-teen me, though, you'd have probably lost at "like D&D" is the thing.
