It's not Ultra Magnus, it's Ultra Nemesis.
Do you think it would be possible to use the upcoming multipack Magnus (the mini ML version) with SS86 Magnus, perhaps with a bit of modding and/or an upgrade kit?
If they picked an eye color to give him (and didn't just leave the sockets empty like the G1 version), maybe they chose red because of the vintage commercial?
Or it's just contrast.
I figured they’d either go white to represent the part of the inner robot head peeking through the eyeholes or black to represent the endless depths of his empty soul. Guess there’s precedent for red after all.
I've generally been priced out of Missing Link, but I am excited to see (from afar) how they manage Ultra Magnus.
I've only bought the KO version. It was the same with their Diaclone toys but even the recent KO Battle Convoy was far too expensive for me.
I am concerned that it will be too pricey, plus the tarrifs making it even more so....
The price is going to suck, but I don't have a lot of confidence that waiting for something less expensive will ever pay off. Kingdom is just not adequate. I'd be satisfied with the Legacy Deluxe with a trailer, but they just sold the cab on its own. I expect they'll call it done and never make a trailer.
I don't want it to be the ONLY thing available, but I would not at all mind Hasbro having a multi-year line of literal G1 with knees (and elbows and shoulders and ankles, etc.) running alongside of the main line. I don't need the deep dives, but if they hit all the big names from the first few years of the brand, I'd be ecstatic. Megatron would have to be a tank that turns into a robot that looks like it turns into a gun, but as long as the robot mode was right, I'd be happy.
Not cartoon Megatron, TOY Megatron. This but articulated, Missing Link / Hasbro Deluxe Prime style:
I'm not sure you could give G1 toy Megatron the Missing Link/Legacy G1 Prime treatment. The G1 Prime design had the base skeleton and even some limited articulation to build off of. G1 Megatron is a mess of late 70s nonsense held together by hope and the imagination of children. I'm not sure how you could faithfully replicate that robot design while also giving it modern articulation.
It may actually help if it can't turn into a gun. If the designers had free-range to make the altmode whatever works instead of having to replicate the original's transformation, they may be able to make something work. Some parts, particularly those hips*, would need some more mass to be able to work, but as long as the "spirit" of the old robot mode was there, I'd be pleased.
*Not the thighs, though. Megatron's thighs are already TOO seductive as it is!
I actually don't think Megatron would be all that horrible to do. The hips are the only thing that would need some serious work, and that's more related to the way they swing forward than the part about adding forward/backward hip rotation. He already has shoulder joints and really just needs the ability to swing outward added. Elbows, knees, and wrists would be pretty simple to add. And then neck and ankle articulation should also be doable. Thigh rotation might be tricky, but I'd also argue not entirely necessary.
The real question is if they would rework the hips to something more practical, or if they just slap on a rotational joint to give him the articulation without changing the appearance. I'd kinda like the former from a purely practical perspective, but the latter seems more appropriate for the goals of this line.
This is a Takara line, so I wouldn't be looking for any tank modes here. I fully expect he'll be a gun if he happens at all.

See this is what I love about Legacy Deluxe G1 Prime. It did not need to deviate from the original toy as much as it did, as Missing Link proved. But it set the precedent that they're allowed to deviate if a harder design like Megatron needs it. If they need to bulk up the limbs a bit, that's okay. Prime did it and still looks great.
Just go to G2 Megatron instead. If nothing else, the sheer blowback would be epic.
Never happening. Someone at Hasbro didn't get G2 Megatron for Christmas and is spitefully blocking a proper update. If he couldn't have one no one will.
