Oh, yeah. I forgot about Clayface. Fine, 3 out of the first 4 movies of this new universe are all Superman-related. That's still weird to me. (Also, just that they're making a Clayface movie when the second JOKER movie under-performed for them. Do they really think Clayface is going to have a bigger draw than Joker? These are the kind of decisions that get us a Morbius movie. But, that might be a different discussion. )

Have you SEEN the second Joker movie? Becuase if you had, you wouldnt be surprised that it failed.

I'm still not sure why they cant just fold the Reeves movies into this universe...
I'd be all for that but apparently Matt Reeves is resistant to the idea.

Saw Supergirl.

It was just ok.

I liked the start with the bus rescue. Made me feel hopeful. Might slightly be because Skaarians were there and they're Legion of Super-Heroes aliens. (Though the Sklarians are yellow skinned, not blue in the movie. And Kono, the Legionnaire ish Sklarian, has phasing powers, while the the movie had them us pocket teleporters).

Afterwards, though, kinda basic. Lobo was OK. Krem the villain was forgettable (was he better in the Woman of Tomorrow comic?). Ruthie was... you seem nice but who are you? Does she become a regular character in the comics? (Is Woman of Tomorrow even current canon or just an Elseworlds?). Her emotional story about revenge and Kara trying not to get her to murder is so used up in tropes and media. Please say the WoT didn't do that too.

Krypto was probably what folks wanted to see. I don't like untrained dog Krypto but I still wanted to see more of him soooo was disappointed.

David Krumholtz as the dad was cool, hehe

Overall, it was just basic. It didn't make me feel good or bad unlike Motu but I can't decide if it's better or not.

Woman of Tomorrow is indeed canon. It was sort of the lead in to the current Sophie Campbell run.

As for Krem and Ruthie... they suffer the same fate in this movie that the general world does. Part of the appeal is that they're very much traditional sword and society fantasy characters- the marauding warlord and the young protagonist out for revenge with a sword that's meaningful for her family- in this super hero story. Taking Kara- a modern super hero character- and putting her in this Dungeons and Dragons quest is part of the fun. And a part of that is how she bounces off of these characters from a totally different genre.

But this movie takes those interesting elements and smoothes over what makes them unique and turns Krem, Ruthie, and the world they inhabit into stock grungy sci fi elements, and it all reads as much less interesting.

I've seen the look of the art of the comic but I didn't realize it was a a fully sword and sorcery type story. I don't think that would have worked in the movie but I can see the original story feel totally being lost by turning it sci-fi.

So the bus scene with the Sklarian raiders isn't in the original comic at all?

(Side thing, I really should watch the Supergirl show to see all the Legionnaires that appeared)

I would lean towards "classical fantasy mixed with cosmic western" to the vibes of the graphic novel. Still no justification for the drab look the film seems to sport.

Oh something I didn't like was Lobo
saving Supergirl from the death blow. It might be a feminist thing but didn't need the 'man saving the woman' bit.

Also, if Supergirl was able to heal from Kryptonite Delight by being exposed to the sun, could Krypto have healed up from the special poison from yellow sun too?

It was a double trope, the 'don't kill, you'll lose your innocence' and 'hero kills bad guy anyway'. Kinda bleh to see it here but I'm still ok with Kara killing him.

Supergirl was pretty meh. Not bad, but pretty weak compared to Superman.

It was somehow less fun and humorous and also less poignant and heartfelt than Superman.

The main villain was uninteresting, generic, and uncharismatic. The opening scene with him could have been a super tense scene similar to the opening of Inglorious Bastards, but instead it just kind of fell flat.

Never really got invested in the girl. Lobo was just kind of there.

It needed more color.

Many of the scenes on the plant they are on in the middle of the movie are really sloppy. With it being kind of difficult to tell what is going on and happening, the background having people that don't really seem to know what they are supposed to be doing.

She loses and regains her powers too many times.

Trying to stop the girl from killing the villain really didn't land here. The bad guy was too bad. I don't think most people are going to sympathize with "don't kill the guy that killed your whole family, kills kids, and kidnaps kids to rape.

I think a few things could have helped smooth things out.

If they wanted to take the angle of her trying to keep the girl from killing the villain they needed to have her offer a clear alternative. If she had been able to assure the girl that she could make sure he would face justice it would have helped this land better.

Instead of Lobo just kind of being there, I feel like when they met him the girl should have offered the "sword in exchange for revenge" so he had a more concrete reason to be involved.

Im not sure why the bad guys wouldn't have kept there ship in an orbit that matched the green sun. This could have given the girl something to do at the end in altering the flight path to get it back into the yellow sun.
