Apparently, this is the best 'CHUG-esque' Astrotrain.

However, I would be happy with an oversized version of this legend-scale one at this point.

What an eyesore. It’s like the old 3P angular aesthetic but covered with borderline Stege.

Also what the hell is going on with his crotchplate

I don't know what they could implement that could help the proportions aside from some partsforming arm and leg armor. They aren't exactly averse to telling their buyers to punch pins, but I dunno, this is another level of complexity and what looks to be a lot more pins than anything they've done before, except maybe the disastrous Galaxy Upgrade Prime to Nova Prime wings kit.

Glad I got the normal DNA Nova Prime kit that doesn't require any pin puniching. The wing extensions just peg right onto Nova's base wings via the 5mm ports.

Yeah, they decided that their OC used Nova Prime as a base but in red. This meant they had to produce copies of the base Nova Prime wings to attach the upgrades to. This necessitated punching out the very stubborn pins keeping Galaxy Optimus' wings on but then, they also messed up their new Nova Prime wings, meaning you needed to do even more modification just to get them on.

Glad I avoided that set like the plague. Turning Optimus Prime into a blood-stained wraith is a baseless notion bordering on edgelord farce.

I stayed away from that in general because anything adding on to the default splayed-out wing segment base was a lost cause that would always look wrong (even DNA's end up looking decent only when they're all straight down, because they obscure the fact that their bases are very much not straight down). Anything other than also-splayed-out would look droopy. I'd take some pin punching if it meant an entirely new base panel with articulated wing segments/spines, but that would also be more costly than I'd really want.

There's enough surface similarities between Nova and, say, Energon Rodimus (mainly the curvy longnose cab front end that turns into the boots) that maybe a well-budgeted future new mold might be able to support them. Until then I'll make do with the Legacy one, which is already a pretty neatly executed concept, just with some limitations.

Could be worse...when my nephew was little and messing with the Thomas trains, I said "George was curious. What did the lever do? Thomas screamed as the rails sent him careening over the cliff..." while sending the train off the shelf.

Then, no joke, he carefully took the trains from me, pushed me out of the room, and closed the door. Apparently my story time attempt wasn't appreciated.
Oh, I was expecting the lever to direct Thomas onto a track that had a different number of people tied to it.

No, no, that's the Snidely Wiplash crossover. The Curious George one is less actively malicious, though we never did find out what Thomas landed ON...hopefully not the Littlest Pet Shop or something, you never know...

So Sunday was officially the release date for SS86 Hot Rod. I've been checking the Target site regularly. Saw him show up as available at my local store earlier, but apparently went out of stock before I could check out. It's now just flat out showing as unavailable, which is how Earthspark Soundwave still appears. I really don't want to have to pay eBay prices for this just because they decided to launch orders at a non-standard time with no advance notice... 🤬

Distribution on these was weird. Out of the three stores near me, two had Hound, but the one closest to me doesn't have him. It also says "not sold at [scrub scrub scratch erase]." Haven't looked for Hot Rod, though.
