Yeah, that's a relatively "new" thing too. Where they might have (for example purposes) 4 voyagers to work with in a wave, 1 might cost 50% and the others 13% each but each one "costs" 25% at retail.

Or this SS86 Hot Rod will end up a retailer exclusive since we already got an SS86 Hot Rod release (in two packaging flavors, even). Under a retailer exclusive initiative, they can be more flexible with the price point.

<=Still wants the darker toy deco version rather than comic/cartoon magenta…

If I can get this, I'll never have been so happy to have missed out on the first SS Hot Rod...

Yeah, this sounds like a better package than the original release. Hopefully it isn't a PITA to get.

Little bummed about missing out on the matrix blast effect, but I'm find with not having the others.

...dammit, I missed that!

I was hoping a SS Hot Rod part would work just as well for Kingdom Rodimus Prime, since... well, you know. 👀

I'm still baffled at how they managed to miss the mark of "the rear half of the var mode literally disappears, just make sure it lines up with the trailer right".

It was so tantalizingly close to good.

I like Kingdom Rodimus (they screwed him big in the cartoon), but if they can improve upon it, I'm game.

Thing that gets me is all the greeble. Intentional or not, the season 3 cast were a lot smoother in detail than the 84-85 cast members. Kingdom Rodimus is so greebly, even his face has them.

My instinct is to think s3 was more greebly, but I think the G1 cartoon aesthetic in general is relatively smooth, s3 included. S3 just had the occasional episode with more of a budget and/ambitious animation that tried to emulate the movie vibe a bit more than usual, but with gratuitous shading/etc lines rather than greebling. Some shots of Galvatron in TRoOP are just festooned with em.

Kingdom Rodimus was okay with a very "how did you miss THAT" vibing altmode, but I'm ready for a new one that hits the marks. I just hope it's still closer to the proportions and aesthetic of most of the modern lines than the upcoming SS86 re-redo Seeker and Soundwave molds.

If they do go further in cartoon accuracy, I kinda wish they'd have gone all-in on comic accuracy for Kingdom, since that seemed to be their inspiration to some degree, what with the sword and all.

SS Devastation Bumblebee, which I think was, in turn, based upon Classics Bumblebee?

Oh...I had thought it was another version of the 'Penny Racer' one, I'm not familiar with this version at all. Is it a remold or all new?

Wow, how long has it been since Takara were the ones to reveal new mainline figures before Hasbro?
