Almost all of NF Soundwave's overly detailed holdover bits from Siege (forearms, feet, hip skirts) are all tucked away in tapedeck mode.
Just like G1 Soundwave! A nice amount of detailing there. A few lines on the arms, some greebles on the outside of the legs, and a bunch of stickers I would like to see as lightly-sculpted details. The NF one does that nicely for me.

Well jive. I don’t realize this was a new mold. Wonder if the Netflix / Legacy cassettes are gonna fit?
They ought to, considering all the SS86 cassettes were sized to match the Siege/Netflix/Legacy Soundwave and Kingdom/Legacy Blaster molds.

The Siege cassettes all look like they started from the cassette mode as a base and then worked their way to figure out the robot modes afterward. These three look like the opposite, having started from robot mode and worked to figure out the cassette modes from there, making for much messier looking cassettes.

Ravage is always going to be a tricky one. He's a case where a VERY two-dimensional toy gets morphed by defiance of physics into a three-dimensional cat. We're asking to get a toy that does that same sort of magic while also keeping it too small to use the sort of tricks that routinely get used these days to accomplish similar feats on larger toys. Barring using a much larger budget than Hasbro would be willing to allocate, and very likely price points that most consumers wouldn't be willing to pay for such a small toy, something's got to give.

The birds, on the other hand, are disappointing. The WfC molds were already nearly perfect. With the weapons being an extra accessory on the SS86 versions, the new birds could have very easily gone the Ratbat route and just gotten an extra accessory added, similar to what's offered by groups like Toyhax. Or for a better connection, they could have modified the silver box on their backs to provide a connection point instead. Or redesigned the whole thing, but keeping it pretty much in line with what they already had. Instead, they decided to dump any ties to the original toys and go full cartoon accuracy, and managed to break what was already working really well in the process.

Fully agreed on the birds. The WFC mold was solid, and all I'd ask for is a flapping up/down joint for the wings. And, perhaps more simply since it's not an engineering need, some actual retooling to the top surface to be less greeble and more cassette. But I like the idea of just letting the backpack and barrels be a separate accessory as they did with Ratbat. Still, even if they'd been the same foldout backpack as before, I'd have been fine with it. The new one doesn't look that much more substantial anyway.

The Ravage mold might've benefited from just being a Core class standalone like Steeljaw or Frumbzy. Except instead of spending on big accessories like the speaker or the piledrivers, the budget could've gone to more parts for Ravage himself. Of course, with no Core class now, that's not really an option at the moment.

(I am bummed that this also seems to mean no more better-proportioned Rewind/Eject in the style of the redone Rumble/Frenzy, but who knows. They redo these things so damn often it's not really impossible.)

As it is, I'm not too fussed about the janky cassette altmodes, as the slide downward began well before this trio. It's not like Steeljaw and Ramhorn, while better, are particularly stellar. Plus I've supplemented my official cassette guys with lots of Dr. Wu ones with similarly wack tape modes, so these will fit right in. Or at least Ravage will, as I'll probably just use the older birds.

(shrug) that's fine?

I wasn't really basing any of that on what 80s electronics looked like. I'm not sure where that came from.

I've just seen a lot of people saying he needs more detailing on him (not just you), and I'm just saying (to address the general complaint, not you and what you said specifically) that between his animation accuracy and what he's meant to turn into, he seems fine to me in that regard?

They ought to, considering all the SS86 cassettes were sized to match the Siege/Netflix/Legacy Soundwave and Kingdom/Legacy Blaster molds.

And some of them even fit! And some of those actually work when you try to open the door!

Hopefully this one is sized a little bigger in that regard.

Seriously, it's not like they don't have the exact measurements. How can they keep messing that up so bad time and again?

I want this.

I want that for the humanoid robots, the cats, the birds, etc

I want awesome representations of the characters. They don’t *have* to turn into a cassette now. We’ve had that almost constantly. Let the designs breathe a little.
ok but it'd be nice to get Slugfest, Squawktalk, and so on instead of restarting with Rumblefrenzyravageratbat all the time

They always start at the beginning and quit partway through instead of starting at the middle or end and bouncing around.

And not just the tapes! It's always
