Again, I've been in Targets that their app says don't have the figure I'm looking for and then I find it. I don't know who is managing Target's procurement and inventory management but whoever it is must be living a charmed life in terms of work/life balance.

Ah, but then the discourse shifts to how acceptable that "something" is. Even if it's in everyone's favor, like taking Hound from a 5-pack-locked release and releasing him as a single, it's still insufficient or wrong or rude somehow. Or took too long. Or was just a straight reissue with nothing to "justify" the delay. Or didn't come with a coupon for a personally-administered foot rub from Philip J. Hasbro. The goalposts will always, always move.

So much of this stems from people in this fandom having no self control.

They wants Starscream NOW and will buckle under their weak will power to pay upwards of $150 on the secondary market to get one. Only to get mad at Hasbro when they secure a more widespread release that makes him easily obtainable at retail.

Even if anyone thinking for two seconds would realize.... 1) distribution is entirely outside of Hasbro's control and 2) of course they're going to find ways to make him available.

But arriving at these two obvious conclusions would require these schmucks to admit their own fault in falling into the FOMO trap they created for themselves through their own lack of will power and patience and realizing that they can't just blame Hasbro for every little thing that goes wrong in the hobby.

In short, it would require a level of self reflection that is in rare supply among fans these days.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting here lamenting that I wasn't able to get a Master Morpher on account of not being able to afford one during it's brief, limited run release... that of all things sure never came back around, now that I could probably afford its original pre-aftermarket price.

I lament that too. Well, more that I couldn't get one either. I don't think I even had an opportunity from way over here.

This has been defrayed somewhat by buying a pricey Falcon coin from someone parting out the set (after having waffled on repro coins, ordering one to try it out, and never receiving it) and putting it in a repainted Lightning Collection Pink Ranger Morpher to have a makeshift White Ranger Movie Morpher. This was as close as I was ever going to get to that because the Legacy line was heavily collector-oriented and store-exclusive, especially the Green/White Ranger stuff -- a double whammy for availability AND price. (I also had to make custom green and white-banded Communicators for this same reason; luckily those showed up here and somehow lasted long enough that I was able to get two for the purpose.)

Still, yeah, that Master Morpher situation is likely never happening. I'd have more luck following everyone else and tracking down a Legacy or Lightning Morpher and ordering all the many many repro parts to assemble one myself, and I'm strapped enough that I don't need to create new problems like that.

To be fair, I don't think that's quite the same case as Prowl and Starscream here. The latter two are from a brand Hasbro actually gives a damn about (more's the pity).

Regarding another Target exclusive-- did their SS-86 Megatron ever come out? I never saw it, but I still see the Optimuses.

(And I've seen the Insecticon pack.)

^Yeah, it's out there. I believe that mine came from Pulse, but I've seen him in-store in my area at least once.

Is this somebody who we should take seriously? Real question. Asian distributors got a lot of stock early because they’re on the same side of the world and the toys are more or less mass retail with a slightly smaller supply here.

Well I'm glad he was Fanchannel up here in Canada.

Royally sucks for folks who pre-ordered him though. It IS Starscream though. Odds are he'll get a re-release at some point. He's like, in the top 3 Decepticons.

About the ONLY thing that might give this post some credibility is the recent brouhaha over in Star Wars land about how some recent Vintage Collection releases were offered at much higher prices than Hasbro themselves initially quoted (The INT-4 went from $52 up to $80 being the most egregious, it seems).

This same issue has cropped up in other lines as well, like GI Joe Classified and Star Wars. It’s clearly a Target issue of some sort.

I wouldn't give that post the time of day without more information surfacing. Asian distributors have had US store exclusives with different availability (but usually at a premium) for at least the last decade, because the exclusivity contracts are generally for the US market and the Everywhere Else market has grown enough that they don't want to leave money on the table by not offering to them. This isn't a matter of "here, Asian market, you can have this thing I won't be bringing to the US anymore".

But if this were true, why is it only affecting this specific production run, this handful of items, and ONLY Transformers (what are the "other Hasbro product lines"?), and why is only Target making this key financial decision? Is there something about Target specifically, and exclusives specifically, that ticks all the boxes?

Every reasonable avenue of follow-up inquiry dead-ends at "oh, I can't talk about that". Good old-fashioned Awesome Inside Sources, He Tell Me.

Iirc Hasbro's initial solicit and eventual prices for some Transformers stuff also changed/jumped recently. Not as often I think, but there were a few cases.

But as is discussed in the other thread on Hasbro concerns, that's almost certainly due to the volatility of costs in production and transport (just the cost of ending the war with Iran 200 times). Which is something that would affect all retail channels to an extent; if this cost-to-profit rationalization were a thing, other retailers would also be making cuts, other lines would also be affected, or Target would at least want to make SOME money out of this.

No.

Look, I was a kid during the 90s at the height of "my uncle who works for Nintendo" Pokemon rumours. I can sniff out fandom bullshit pretty succinctly.
