Studio Series 86 Appreciation Thread

It's the colors. They're not an exact match for the colors used for Hasbro's Masterpiece Frenzy, but they're a lot closer to that than to the more toy-based colors we're used to seeing for Frenzy.

Shame about the lack of elbows, because it's otherwise a drastic improvement over the Siege mold. If I had an Earth mode Soundwave I would have to have this.

It very much highlights the fact that, no matter one's position whether FIRRIB or vice-versa, cartoon Rumble really has never been the same colors as toy Frenzy.

Going by the cartoon, it should be 'Frenzy is Black, Rumble is Purple', but that doesn't have either side of the standard red-blue dichotomy.

Yesterday, I had 86 Ironhide arrive and my impressions are:

Nice looking robot mode, terrible vehicle mode, its a case of to much going on and things not connecting properly, so I pretty much decided that he is the second worse Modern Ironhide that I've handled, the worse would be the old Universe figure

Don't feed bad, just due to the fiascos with many modern toys, when I need a Prowl or Ironhide I just borrow my nephew's Quintesson guard and Sparkless Barricade, and claim they died and turned into zombies.

Gold/yellow color is throwing me off. But overall I like it.

He looks good, I'm looking forward to pre-ordering this guy, all we need now is a look at Swoop to complete the Dinobots, thou with Snarl I hope they not put rubber on parts of him as they did with Sludge, that was a odd desgin choice

Snarl looks mostly great, very happy since he was always my favorite Dinobot growing up. But yeah, that yellow plastic looks really off next to all the gold. I wonder why - budget reasons, or those pieces are too complex to be gold, or just unfinished? Hoping for the latter...

Also kinda wish he came with his rifle instead of the sword, just to fit in more with the others... though of course hoping we'd get a sword set later. And he could always have his rifle in that instead of the sword.

Snarl was always going to come with his sword, since he was the only Dinobot to have it as the weapon on the character model. It shot lasers.

Swoop's character model, for those curious, has no handheld weapon, instead only keeping the wing mounted missile launchers in both modes.

I still feel like Swoop is gonna pull a Red Cog, and have a bunch of accessories, since Swoop is smaller then the other Dinobots. So either they're gonna make him ultra complex, or we're gonna see 'Large voyager with extras'

Just out of curiosity I googled "G1 dinobots animation" and it's weird. Nearly every shot I can find from the G1 show has all of the Dinobots roughly the same height in robot mode, having Swoop just be smaller in alt mode. I'm wondering what they're going to do, but I suspect he won't be drastically different size, plus he'll likely have pretty large, multi-jointed wings to make up some of the difference.

Ratchet will likely be just a straight up repaint of 86 Ironhide with a different head, the closest to that picture would be the Earthrise figure, thou I think they could pull off that G1 Ratchet if they gave him a leader class budget
