One end credits scene that isn't that important.

So excited for the future.

Got a few complaints in retrospect but overall, Brand New Day is AWESOME!

But you folks have to watch it before it gets spoiled.

Peter is a bonehead. And no 8-Ball? Aaaaw.

Would love to discuss when folks see it.

Was disappointed about Keith David’s role in the movie being wasted. Was hyped to see him and it was just nothing.

I know! I was certain he was going to be either Jackel or Curt Connors, given the broader trajectory of the MCU at this point.

I... um... did not like it. I kind of went in with no expectations and was ready for it to tell me its own story.

What I feared came to pass, with a lot of the "loving homages" to Spider-Man history being essentially glorified Easter eggs. The villains the film was seemingly built around are just sort of side quests, and it just feels like a massive ad for the MCU version of the X-Men, presumably coming after Doomsday/Secret Wars.

I know this is unlikely to ever happen again now that Spider-Man is fully integrated into the MCU, but I do miss Spider-Man movies that were just Spider-Man movies. NWH was kind of the nice exception, as a big celebration of Spider-Man's movie history, but even that leaned heavily on Doctor Strange.

Again, I get it... this is an interconnected film universe and they need this to set up other stuff down the line... but man... this had the potential to be the most classically Spider-Man movie in the MCU and it kinda dances in that space, but not really.

The thing I liked most is that the spell that wiped Peter from Ned and MJ's memories wasn't just undone. Still... eh. I was left underwhelmed.

Maybe the MCU just isn't for me anymore? That's ok too.

I know! I was certain he was going to be either Jackel or Curt Connors, given the broader trajectory of the MCU at this point.
What even is the trajectory of the MCU at this point? I'm hearing that Secret Wars will be anything from a total reboot and fresh slate to only a partial reboot to fully bring the X-Men in and put a bow on the Fox crew (which I thought D&W did nicely).

And I mean... Tom Holland did say he didn't want to play Spider-Man into his 30s so... I donno.

I was hyped up for 8-Ball but I knew he wasn't a sure thing like Tarantula, Tombstone and the montage guys were.

Who was the one hitting the wall with his head (?) It was so fast that I thought it looked like a smaller Movie X-Men Juggernaut. Was it one of the Wrecking Crew? But they already appeared in She-Hulk.

Dang, you didn't like it? That's ok. I went in blind too and was blown away at the revelation. Acting was so good that I did cry at that point.

Only real stuff I wasn't into was Peter whining about his non relationship. But it's his fault for waiting 4 years plus or however long their college course ended.

Oh and not seeing the full mutation. Not even in a dream sequence, haha

But everything else was awesome! Great villain, great end, great Punisher and Hulk time.

Not as funny or light hearted so im probably going with....

Far from Home
No Way Home
Brand New Day
Homecoming

But they're all so good so they're really close together.

Edit - Widow was awesome too but indulgent with the sauna. Was Yelena like that in the comics?

Got to see it with the wife earlier, and we enjoyed it!

It left me with plenty of questions, but still, I liked it.

Kinda disappointed that "Awakened" Spider-Man didn't break out the stingers, but still.

Well, since we're going to be getting Black Panther 3 and probably a Shang Chi sequel, I don't think a total reboot is on the table, anymore. I'm not sure if Disney actually has a plan for Marvel, at this point. Just kind of hoping something becomes a surprise smash hit, I guess?

I'm not even quite sure what I want them to try and do for the next, big overarching story. They already did Thanos and the Infinity Stones, and currently they're doing the Incursions and Secret Wars. They've hit most of the major highlights of the comics in one form or another, like Civil War and Secret Invasion and even King in Black. Avengers vs X-Men would probably be my best guess? And then there's...Onslaught, maybe? Onslaught might actually get worked into any AVX movie, if they combine the first crossover with the second, anyway. We're kind of running low on Saga-level threats worthy of spending multiple movies to build towards.

Fox swung at the Dark Phoenix Saga twice and missed both times, so maybe Disney and the MCU could try building to that once they get their version of the X-Men off the ground and running?
I mean what they laid down in Spider-Man BND seems to hint at that.

Well given who they announced as the lead for BP3... some sort of time warp or reset shenanigans may still be happening.

Please no. Enough Dark Phoenix. There's PLENTY of other X-Men stories to adapt. Stop trying to make Dark Phoenix happen. I know it still hasn't been done WELL, but it's been attempted enough times. Do something different.

From what I understand, that's T'challa's son...who's also named T'challa. Which is...a little dumb, but I guess they REALLY didn't want to get accused of recasting, for whatever reason. So, we might get another time-skip, but I don't think that requires any sort of time warp?

I do expect a few...."alterations" to get hand-waved away by Secret Wars. Like why there's a different Ghost Rider running around, when we already got one in Agents of SHIELD. But, if anything, I think this'll be more of a "soft reboot", if anything. A..."Zero Hour" level change to the timeline. Most of it will have probably happened. But, a few things will be different. (Probably mostly the TV shows will get hit with the hardest of the retcons, honestly.) If only to excuse new status quos for some characters. And maybe as a excuse to bring Loki back.

I don't know what to tell you. BND seemed like it was laying the first bricks of telling that story in the MCU.

As for BP...
I know it's his kid but that kid was like ten last we saw him at the end of BP2. So we're looking at a 15-20 year time jump judging from the casting. Some sort of timeline mixup via Secret Wars seems to be in the works even if it's not a full on reboot.

I think it was always destined to be a "soft" reboot like it was in the comics. Keep some roles, bump some roles into mentor status, bump some into duplicates.

The difference this time is that Marvel might actually be willing to give more than a single movie. If nothing else, it could be a solid pay off to some cosmic adventures. With Marvel talking about introducing Nova and the Guardians, Star Lord, and Eternals still around, Marvel could leverage X-Men into some broader cosmic adventures. Between the Shi’ar (and the cosmic implications of “The Blip”), Brood, and Phalanx, there’s a lot of stuff to play with.

BUT IN REGARDS TO SPIDER-MAN… :p
It had a huge opening weekend. Estimates put the film’s opening domestic weekend at around $355 million, with international numbers already putting the film on track to JUST under a Billion dollar opening weekend. The film will probably see similar “burn off” as other recent releases (I’m expecting a second weekend drop of over 60%), but it seems set to be the number 1 film for at LEAST the next weekend, if not the rest of the month until back to school and “audience burn off” start to impact its financials. I suspect the film will hit $1.5 Billion with a solid shot at $2 Billion before all is said and done.

Btw, what was the phrasing of the ending of Guardians 3? It was 'Peter Quill will be back' but didn't say Avengers Doomsday, right?

But the ending text of Brand New Day was... 'Spider-Man will be back'. Still no Avengers Doomsday?

And why Spider-Man and not Peter Parker? Or was it Star-Lord will be back? Wondering about consistency. Or the theory that the ending meant A Spider-Man, like a different Spider-Man, a second one, is being detected.

After a week in release, Spider-Man BND is already the top grossing film of 2026 both US domestic and worldwide. At least until Avengers Doomsday this Christmas. Frankly a run between 1.5 and 2 billion isn’t off the table since there is NOTHING significant on the release schedule for the rest of the month. As I said before, back to school and audience burn off will probably do more to lower the draws in the coming weeks than competition from other films.

I thoroughly enjoyed it when I watched it. Feels weird that I feel like the outlier with that opinion but I felt like the movie told the story it wanted to tell. It's also interesting that multiple movies across different genres are acknowledging that one of the antagonists is not taking care of your mental health.

The movie's finances say that you're not an outlier for liking it at all 😛

Well, the movie is out on home streaming, and I went ahead and bought it to watch with the kids on their fall break as nothing was playing at the movie theater that they could see.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I loved all the MCU characters in this, and the plot was neat. Predictable, but neat.

I will be honest that I thought that Frank's swearing was a bit excessive for a Spiderman film. Like the language has definitely been turned up here in this film.

Not much really happens for Peter in this film, and a lot of the characters lack growth. Frank has the biggest development in the film for Pete's sake(pun intended). So I wonder where this film series is going to go from here.
