As great as the sculpts are, I do wish the quills were hollow, so the figures aren't so top-heavy.

A problem that plagued Sonic figures since the Jazzware days.

It looks pretty and all but I'd argue that this was the weakest animation as far as substance. Felt more like a music video or promo reel versus a story.

Though I did enjoy the Eggman & Sage team up. In a longer animation involving teams, I'd enjoy see what Sage would get up to for a team win over a personal win.

I liked how Shadow was all business in this. No sneering, no smirking or snarling, just taking things as they come and reacting accordingly like he's a professional.

It's not that the animation is outright bad. It's...

I guess I'll preface this by noting that since Tails' status as my favorite character has been on my mind recently, I sat down and figured out who my top 10 favorite Sonic characters were. Shadow was number 10--something I'd never thought possible years ago but they've lot of good work repairing his character. But...there's a big glowing asterisk to that placement. Shadow has a problem similar to Batman that often his coolness is used to dunk on the rest of the cast instead of making him cool along with the rest of the cast. Watching this gave me "*sigh* Happy Birthday Knuckles..." emotions again instead of praising the things the animation gets right. Like, you bring back Extreme Gear and the Babylon Rouges to positive fanfare only to have them job out early on? Why do that?

This is something they got right the first time around and kinda forgot. SA2 Shadow's trashtalk game is on point, but he is not too proud to admit when he's impressed.

At least from what's been seen in the recent online test, it seems like in-game Shadow does have a variance in interaction based on who it is. He's among the people who'll compliment Cream.

Sage is coming to the IDW comics! It's all part of the lead up to IDW's 100th Issue! Coming in...like...two years, or so. They're kind of getting ahead of themselves with the marketing! But, still...Sage!

This will probably be a Post-Frontiers Sage, too. Because the comics do like to have the games happen in canon, just off screen.

That's... optimistic. I hope that means IDW has a good reason to be so optimistic.

Their payroll expenses have to be pretty low at this point. At some point they're going to profitable if they can sell one book.

Part of me wonders if they're going to start double-shipping Sonic for a few months? But, then again, they often skip a month here or there, just randomly. So, that'd be a pretty big ask. Even if it was to build up hype for issue #100. IDW does like to do that, though. Like with Transformers during the Unicron Wars.

...That tends to happen when they're about to lose the license, though. So, if they do start double-shipping, I might start worrying more.

...Still, though. Sage! I'm looking forward to Ian getting to write Sage, again.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Missing a month might not be IDW though: apparently the distribution company that picked up for diamond prioritizes book stores over comic stores, and aren't very good at either anyway.

I'm talking about even before that. A lot of times, they stopped putting out issues of the mainline series while there was a miniseries going on. And sometimes, they just missed a month.

I just find it unlikely that they'd start double-shipping comics to get to issue #100 faster, unless they had a reason to.

IDW's taking it kind of easy with Sonic. They aren't pushing out a ton of comics in that franchise, like they are with TMNT or Godzilla. I'm guessing there's either a more involved approval process from having to go through Sega, or Sonic just isn't selling as well as TMNT or Godzilla does. Which...honestly it's TMNT, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Side thing but Ian Flynn isn't writing Sonic anymore? Evan Stanley is the new regular writer now? I haven't caught up with the Sonic issues so was there an announcement in the letter page or something?

Ian isn't the head writer anymore, but he still comes in to write a arc here and there. They kind of made a big deal out of him leaving, but he never really left. It's a little weird. I assume writing/adapting the games is keeping him too busy to write all the issues of the comic? I really don't know what's going on.

If you look at the image above, you can actually see Ian Flynn still credited as one of the co-writers on that issue, along with Evan Stanley. So, he's still around. Just not quite as frequently as before.
