Sweet! I find it hard to go back to Double Dragon these days. It feels kinda stiff compared to later brawlers. But back in the day, it was the game that got me into brawlers in the first place. So. Awesome find!

Was at a convention this weekend. The one on the left is a con exclusive thing I bought at a booth, but the NES cart on the right was purchased during a swap meet sorta deal. Where you can bring stuff from home and sell it on tables you buy for an event.

I didn't actually have Double Dragon for my collection and it was only ten bucks, so I figured. Why the heck not?
Nice pick up!

Finally after all the Christmas shopping was done, I went to the local retro gaming store with the family. There I got a couple additions to my collection.

I saw this game in the display shelf, and it triggered a memory. I looked up the game play and it looked somewhat familiar. Then I saw the character selection menu, and it clicked. I had played this a lot as a kid. I ma not sure if I had it or if my Cousin did, but one of us had it. So I had to pick that up!

I also got myself a loose copy of TMNT 4: Turtles in Time for the SNES.

Sadly, not much at either place I went to. I picked up a couple things from the comic book store that I went to previously. Sadly he had sold off the boxed Mario 3, but I did get a Army Men game for both the Gamecube and N64, along with a complete copy of Final Doom on the PS1.

Sadly nothing new at Game exchange.

I went to Game Exchange today at lunch. I picked up a switch game (Immortals Fenyx Rising) for $9 as well as a loose copy of Destiny of the Emperor for the NES. I just recently saw it on someone's top 10 list, and it looked too much like Dragon Warrior for me to pass on today.

In other words, I ordered some Gameboy games on what not. I was watching the Pixel game squad's what not stream, and they put up a bundle of 5 Gameboy games, and I got it for $50 shipped. It contains:

Super Mario Land 2
Batman
Golf
Arcade classics #4: Defender Joust
Pacman Special Color edition for the Game Boy Color

I think I did fairly well with the good conditions of the games, and I got some interesting games, including one that is on my list.

Yeah, I have been watching them for a while now, and I usually enjoy their content. They at least find new stuff every week, unlike some retro game hunters, (Retro Rick).

Since I plan on posting this today at lunch, I will just show you what I got.

My first and probably only Famicom Disk game! Like most people, I only knew of the Mystery of Convoy video game that came out in Japan in the 1980s, but they released another G1 video game for the Nintendo, and this one was for the Famicom Disk system that was very popular over in Japan at the time.

Its not that great of a game. In fact if you told me that it was originally a different IP altogether and made into a Transformers game like they did with Super Mario Bros 2, I would believe you. Very little in this game has to do with Transformers. You unlock a few Transformers by rescuing them in the levels. The levels are where you play in Vehicle mode, blasting things as you drive along, or in a generic robot mode, that looks nothing like any Transformer, blasting various things in rooms to go to the next room until you reach a boss, who is a Pallet swap of your character. Then at the end, you all pile up inside Metroplex, and fight Scorponok. Like I could swap four art assets out of the game and it would no longer be a Transformer game. I can definitely see why they left this one in Japan. Check out the gameplay below:

I am happy to have this in my collection, but I doubt that I will ever play it.

So recovered and back into the collection:

blue GBA SP
silver GBA SP
Super Mario Advance 2: Mario World
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario bros 3
Mario vs Donkey Kong GBA
Dragon Quest Monster for the DS
Dragon Quest Rocket Slime for the DS
Scribblenaughts for the DS

That is awesome.

I'm sure I could find a system that plays Famicom games at Disc Replay or Ebay or something like that. But I just can't imagine buying enough Japanese games to make it worth my while. I don't exactly read Japanese. Though I would almost like to try getting a Famicom Zelda just to have it.

Congrats on the find.

When I started really collecting old video games, it was in 2006. Mainly it was because of my ex, as she had just got a NEX console that played both NES and Famicom games. THe NES patents had just expired and it was one of the first legal NES clones that you could buy. We played a lot of NES games on it in her apartment, and I started rebuying NES games off of eBay. Man, back then they were cheap! I should have got everything back then. Later on when we got divorced in 2009, she left the NEX with me, and I still have it today, so I can use it to play the Mystery of Convoy game. However, I don't have a way to play Famicom Disk games. Like you I would like to have some of the classic NES games on Disk, like Zelda, Metroid, Castlevainia, etc. However, that is very low on my wishlist right now.

I do wish that I could get a replacement box for Mystery of Convoy though....

Also, one thing to look out for on Famicom Disk Games is that they may not be the game on the label. Just like PC floppy disks, you can overwrite the data on these disks. In Japan, they had Kiosks setup where you could bring in your own disk and overwrite it with a new game. People loved this because if you had a bad game or one that you were tired of playing, you could go to the kiosk, spend $8-$20 putting a new game on the disk. This saved you a lot of money as new Disk games were $30-$40. Companies even started selling bootleg blank disks for people to take to the kiosks. If you notice, the disks have indentations on them on the Nintendo part at the bottom in order to try to stop that, but 3rd parties just started putting the indentations on their disks.
