Comics RUMOR: Skybound’s Energon Universe Possibly Heading into Animation

Coming from website Bleeding Cool, they offer up the rumor that Robert Kirkman and Skybound Stufios have (potentially) sold an animated series based upon their Energon Universe. I.e. Transformers, G.I. Joe and Void Rivals. Click here to read the full article, or check out the highlights below.

Article Summary

  • Robert Kirkman's Skybound is bringing Transformers and GI Joe together in a new animated streaming series.
  • The show will be based on the hit Energon Universe comic books now published through Image Comics.
  • Transformers and GI Joe comic rights moved to Skybound after Hasbro pulled them from IDW Publishing.
  • Announcement expected at San Diego Comic-Con, with the series promising shocking developments.
Might that tie in with the new animated series? I don't know. But Skybound does like to announce these things at San Diego Comic-Con, and there is one of those on in a month's time. Might there be more than meets the eye? Or will they decide to hold out until New York Comic Con? Or split the difference? TF Con Chicago is on in October…

So then, what do you think of this rumor? Do you believe it? Would you be interested in seeing the Energon Universe make the jump to animation? Whatever you thoughts, comment below, follow the links, or join the Skybound discussion in our Energon Universe thread.

Interesting development, but not surprising, consider we have the Invincible show. What's surprising and potentially worrying for me, is that we hear this news/rumors SO SOON. We're only 20-ish issues into the Skybound Energon Universe. I don't want a Game of Thrones situation where the show exhausted the original material and then go about its own way and taking a nose dive in the plot, character developments & pace.

I don't know about this. It seems like a crazy fast turnaround after the recent collapse of Hasbro media.

But then again, this CEO claims he wants to see brand teams be quicker to get things into production. He claims he trusts brand teams to know best where demand is, and doesn't want to waste time running ideas through committees that don't actually have any better information. If it's not just talk and he is actually following through on this, maybe he did listen to someone who said "Yo, Skybound is hot, so let's pounce."
