imo The Batman usually did well with them, its a bit rare when they're completely terrible. Bane could have been interesting, but they gave up on him after the first episode. Most hate Mr. Freeze becuase he's not BTAS, but I think he's a pretty Badass take of the original concept. Poison Ivy was a Mistake, Gotham did similar but least Gotham decided to BS an age acceleration into it. Though one of my favorites is them just updating the era of Gangster for Scarface.
The The Batman villain takes that didn't land for me were Ivy, the Riddler, and Bane.
All in all though, I like The Batman. There's a saying about following up a hot act. You don't want to be the next guy. You want to be the
next next guy. Dalton may be my favourite Bond, but he didn't land with audiences after Moore's massive tenure. Brosnan did though. Garfield struggled to find his footing as Spider-Man after McGuire, but Holland worked out.
So following BTAS/DCAU Batman was always going to be a tall order.
So I respect that they just said "f it" and leaned into the uphill battle, going for reinventions that would make them stand out. Even if they didn't work, it was a noble failure. But most did, IMO.
But yeah... fandom is inherently like this. These disagreements don't always have to be negative (I do think Tranformers fandom has historically had some of the more toxic arguments, but that's really alleviated the last couple of years, thankfully), but you'll always have preferences among a franchise's iterations with its fanbase. The idea that Transformers fans are unique in getting riled up about this is just silly.
Go to a Star Wars forum and tell everyone you prefer the ST over the OT or PT and see what happens.
