am i wrong or didn't hasbro say it was the same universe as g4 but just in the future and also yeah all that friendship is magic unity stuff means nothing cuz in the future of gen 5 there is like pony racism or some jive

Yeah. G5 is a G-rated post apocalyptic future built on the ruins of a civilization no one remembers. Earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasuses stopped living together at some point due to some vague calamity, and they don't remember that they ever lived together in the first place. History has been rewritten to say they have always been at war with Eastasia. Also Sentinel Prime stole their transformation cogs magic disappeared and they no longer remember ever having it, though the royal family pretends they still have it so the plebs will think they're special.

That is the actual plot.

It could have been wilder. Earlier drafts also had earth ponies building a great wall to keep everyone else out. That got dropped because Hasbro thought it sounded too timely, though its actual purpose was just to set up a 'Vault Dweller seeing the world for the first time' moment.

The early script was nuts. If any insider is able to locate a surviving copy I am willing to pay an irresponsible amount of money for it.

I wish more studios would dump or even sell scripts once they're no longer needed. I used to collect that stuff. Universal used to be great about it but now we're lucky if they release one copy on some prop auction site with no announcement.
