Next week, there's a Godzilla Film Festival showing here in anticipation of Minus 0. My girlfriend wants to watch. the choices are Godzilla vs Mothra, Godzilla vs Biollante, Godzilla 2000, Final Wars and Shin Godzilla. Only the last two really have my attention. Shin Godzilla isa better movie but it's not a very good giant monster movie you know?

I'd go with Godzilla 2000 for the memories.

I'd never recommend Final Wars. It's clearly somebody's unrelated dream project that begrudgingly includes Toho monsters just to get the movie funded. Everyone laughs at the Zilla fight but most fights in that movie don't last much longer.

I don't much like the Orga fight. That said, yeah, Final Wars wouldn't be great for an outsider and SHin Godzilla is mostly bureaucrats having meetings.

I dunno, I just don't like Millenium Godzilla much.

Is it Godzilla vs Mothra 1964 or Godzilla vs Mothra 1992? Because 64 would be cool to see in a theater, 92 less so.

My top pick from the list would be Godzilla vs Biollante. It's one of the greats that shaped the look of Godzilla for the next 5 movies, it introduces a unique new kaiju, and it's just plain cinematic. It would be awesome to see on a big screen.

I saw 2000 in theaters, it was fun, but it gets draggy at times. Final Wars is...yeah, most of the fights are jokes. It's a comedy disguised as a kaiju film.

Shin, when it's not being endless meetings, is at least 30-50% the live-action Evangelion movie Anno hasn't been able to make. The ending is basically Operation Yashima with the Eva bits removed. Like 2000, I enjoyed seeing it in theaters with a bunch of like-minded fans, but it's not one I would be clamoring to rewatch.

Yeah, the tricky part is that I have to find something a normie would like.

They're showing the Showa Godzilla vs Mothra. I don't dislike its story but Godzilla being weak to String Shot from literal newborns is kind of a lame ending and the hokey 60's special effects might not land for her.

Biollante wasn't bad but I dunno, I guess I never liked how Biollante's final form has such short screen time but it is probably the best balanced movie of the lot.

I can finally complete Bruticus today as Swindle arrived along with a couple of other figures, thou I did accidentality pre-order two copies of Fangry, also got Searchlight and Tailgate in, I haven't transformed any of them aside from Swindle's trailer/Big BS MF gun as they not long arrived, I'll do that later on

This changes things. Since it's Showa Mothra vs Godzilla, I'd go with that one. I consider it a decent starting point for the uninitiated. Anything from the Heisei series might be a bit overwhelming.

Showa Godzilla vs Mothra is one of the better entries in the series, for sure. Granted, Godzilla loses to the Mothra Always Wins rule, but it's got mostly solid effects, and the storyline has some pretty scathing commentary on political and commercial exploitation mixed in with the giant monster on the loose plot. It's got one of the better strong female roles in the series, and I also consider this the first movie where Godzilla is portrayed more like a force of nature or a creature born out of time, rather than just a malevolent destructive being.

All that being said, of the Heisei films, Biollante is probably the best jumping-on film. It shows pretty much everything you need to know from Godzilla 1984 right at the start, and then builds on the world from there. It definitely leans more into sci-fi tech than Godzilla vs Mothra, but mostly within a believable level (again, building on the scenes from 1984). The effects are also very solid, with some pretty spectacular moments here and there.

TLDR, I don't think you could go wrong with either of these.

I hate it when movies end with Godzilla falling into the sea. That’s like thinking the movie’s over when Batman goes back to the Batcave.

Knocking him into the sea hurts his pride. He knows he needs to take the L at that point.

For a sense of scale, Thor would be thr size of a gnat compared to Unicron. Mjölnir Is like...what, slightly bigger than Thors head? Compared to Unicron, Mjölnir is smsller than a gnat. At the same time, I can't imagine Unicron is worthy.

So what happens if Thor manages to pin Unicron to a planet with Mjölnir. Let's assume Unicron is facing away from the planet so he can't just eat it.

Immortal Hulk had Thor pin Hulk to the ground with the hammer on his chest. Hulk just got got up and left the hammer with a chunk of his thorax on the ground. I can’t imagine it’d be very different except that it’d be a much smaller chunk for Unicron to leave behind.

It'd sort of be like nailing your foot to the floor and then just pulling your foot up off the nail.

Do not attempt.

I sat down and actually watched Morbius. Yeah, it's not a great film but it's okay-ish. Reminds me of those midbudget 2000's superhero movies.

That was actually my reaction too. It wasn't terrible. It was just mid. The thing is, sometimes "just mid" can be worse than actually bad when you're talking about a summer AAA blockbuster.
