So for my Saturday Morning Stream, Power Rangers got voted for watching, so I now start the stream with an hour of Power Rangers. It's literally been decades since I've seen season 1. Way back when it first aired, so this is a trip.

I find myself looking to see if they show Zack's missing finger in any shots now.

I also completely forgot 'Sharkie' existed, though given she showed up a whopping three times, that's probably to be expected. (For those who forgot like me. She's a female bully that hung out with Bulk and Skull.)

I'm having fun re-living the show. ^_^

Yeah, we went in with the plan of stopping once we hit Zeo. Watch a different show, then maybe come back to it. Course by then I have no idea if I'll still be doing this stream.

I had to specify that, because I couldn't see anyone voting for that kind of commitment. XD

ConnerTheWaffle is back with his retrospective of Operation Overdrive. While still being critical about it where it counts, he offers a very different, much kinder perspective about the season than Linkara (who even considered both seasons of Megaforce to be better than this one).

...........Linkara said....WHAT!?

Ironbite-jesus.
From what I recall, in his Megaforce video, he said he still felt Overdrive was worse even while rightly criticizing both seasons of Megaforce for all their glaring faults.

I agree with him. I can't rewatch Overdrive, I've tried. Megaforce has its issue, a lot of them BTS that they had no control over. Megaforce tries to do the best it can out of an impossible situation of pleasing 3 masters. Overdrive has no excuses for why its as jive as it.

Overdrive feels like a bottoming out of Power Rangers as a Disney property. The Disney era had its good and bad aspects, but it feels like Overdrive was the series where all the problems piled up and manifested themselves.

I still REALLY dislike Masterforce and Super Masterforce and I may even rank them as worse, but I can totally see how someone could see Overdrive being worse. It's valid.

If nothing else Overdrive's theme song can push it over the edge when it comes to being terrible.

For me, I can see the actual effort in MF and SMF. There is stuff I like about them. I think they do a fairly decent job at trying to tell a cohesive story out of two different series, with less then half the episodes of a either. I fully acknowledge its flaws and why people don't like it, but I like to praise the stuff I feel they did right when it was a pretty impossible task just on the logistics of episode count alone. MF/SMF had 42 episodes. Goseiger had 50 and Gokaiger had 51. That is almost literally 60% of material cut out. When every other Nick season had 40-44 episodes form single 50-52 episode seasons. That is around 10% loss. Then there is the fact Bandai wants to sell toys. So of the content they had to cut, they had to make sure every toy got its advertisement. And the whole reason they had to go this route of adapting two series, is because Toei wouldn't allow them to skip a season for the anniversary.

Overdrive, has a lot of issue and some stuff I like. (Spencer and Mack's whole story being the main things) But I hate the team as a whole they never feel like a team. I hate that the good villians got shoved to the background. Norg. I ******* hate Norg with every fiber of my being. Like everything I don't like about it, is stuff that is wrong with the story and writing, and in some cases acting and less with the BTS challenges, such as trying to please Disney suits that didnt really understand the series or its fans. And yes, that really came to a head here. But it kinda feels like Kalish's crew were just getting a bit burned out, except Jungle Fury is also by them and is one of the better and more underrated seasons.
