In Japan, manga artists are highly regarded and usually retain the rights to their creations, so while Toei Animation produces the One Piece anime series, Netflix worked directly with its creator, Eiichiro Oda, on the live-action series. Likewise, Toei and Saban are not involved in the live-action remake of Power Rangers, currently in the works at Disney+, as Hasbro acquired international rights excluding Asia to the franchise in 2018. However, Toei has an experienced international production and licensing team on hand to help potential partners navigate this complex landscape.
From as early as 2018 I had created an entire new universe for Power Rangers - kind of a multiverse (it was v fashionable back then haha) I wasn't doing MMPR specifically, but Tommy Oliver was the center of the world, all the mythology was surrounding him being one of the most important people in the universe... because we all know what he would become. So it was basically a time-bending HUGE story about stopping Drakkon from taking power over everything. The TV series had a kind of really cool King Arthur-vibe, that was the angle, more mystical, magical to start us off. Jenny Klein who was writing that show also came up with a very very cool idea for sentient colors... but alas, it never went anywhere. Which sucks, I would've LOVED to have made that universe a reality!

I was working on Power Rangers waaaay back in 2018 when it was at Paramount. I was writing a movie version. Then Hasbro bought eOne and it was all shaken up again, the movie was shelved and then a TV series became the new focus, I started work on that, mapping out how that could work with multiple movies, shows and animations - we worked closely with Netflix on all of that. And then eOne was no more and the whole concept of the show and movies just got lost in that shuffle. It really sucks because it was such a cool approach, Star Wars level, but I think Hasbro just couldn't get everyone behind the same approach.

With all the changing owners of the Power Rangers IP over the years it just got lost in the mix. I think no one could agree on whether it should be a movie or a TV show
...he wanted to make Tommy the most important person in the multiverse...
Not anyone with any sort of decision-making power, I'm sure.I've got a feeling someone at Hasbro read the pitch and was like "WTF is this?! Ewww... No no no! Cancel cancel cancel!"
Not anyone with any sort of decision-making power, I'm sure.
As if he wasn't already?he wanted to make Tommy the most important person in the multiverse...
Here is the thing...MMPR Re-Ignition has premiered on Youtube and...aside from a new title card and the additional of the "Morphin Minute" (Which, at least in the first episode, seemed to be a lore thing. Kind of like the old File of Teletraan 2 from TF Season 3)...not much seems to have changed. As a remaster, I'm REALLY not sure it looks appreciably better than prior sources. It comes across as SUPREMELY low effort, for the amount of press Playmates and Hasbro have put out.
I'm not about to completely poo-poo the idea, given continued popularity for older cartoons and series in many other instances...but, yeah. We'll see.
On the toy front, images have popped up of the "classic rangers" 6 pack set. Probably an online retailer exclusive, this looks to just be the basic 5.25" Rangers in fancy packaging.

My suspicion is that the non-gimmick figures will be their own assortment with the Auto-Morphin' and Aliens in a separate assortment. Playmates does similar with TMNT, which has basic figures, Mix-N-Max, and Classics as their own bespoke assortments.
I'm not saying there aren't reasons that they wouldn't have made it, I just can't see an executive having that go across their desk and saying "Mixing the most popular Power Ranger of all time with the multiverse craze everyone is into and doing these days? No, thank you."You say that.. yet there is no show now.
