I bit the bullet and ordered a Studio Series Prime and Megatron. I will need to look through my various Titan/Prime Masters to give Roller some passengers, as I understand it.

Back in the Golden Age of Shapeways I got him arm adapters and multiple hats. They look better in RL, zoomed in they look a lot grainier than they are and the colors never photograph right. I actually got the paint pretty close.

Yep! That's exactly what I got, too - along with arm adapters. That arm adapter alone went a long way to making him be able to pose so much better.

It's really funny how Ramjet of all characters was the one they leaned on in marketing. Not Megatron, the actual Decepticon leader who had the more expensive toy you'd think they'd want to advertise as much as possible.

I suspect this isn't unrelated to the use of the G1 cartoon with new effects. G2 Optimus looks basically like G1 Optimus, and G2 Ramjet is still A Seeker and therefore able to represent vaguely "Decepticons" as depicted in the cartoon. Whereas Tank Megatron is very obviously unlike anything in the cartoon.

Megatron's toy wasn't ready yet.

Optimus and Ramjet were existing molds from G1 released in the Christmas 1992 first wave of G2. Megatron was a brand-new toy mold released the following year in 1993.

For some reason, my Walmart randomly had like 6 of the Retro Bombshell and Ramhorn anime-deco reissues from 2024 in the clearance aisle for $25.

Anyway who'll win: Guy who can't even point his gun forward and the world's flattest rhinoceros VS two guys who can actually point their guns forward

It's a pretty solid IDW Galvatron.

I think it's a great Galvatron design generally. As much as I love the Dery-model accuracy of Kingdom Galvy's bot mode, its cannon mode pays the price for that in ways the TR design doesn't. And the bonus spaceship mode is just gravy. All of the aesthetic deviations/innovations in the robot and cannon feel on-brand to me - I could totally buy it as a "Super Galvatron" upgrade to any prior incarnation of him.

It unfortunately suffers a lot in its poorly-implemented head design and cannon-related poseability issues. But those both seem fixable, especially if the TM gimmick were dropped (much as I'm charmed by Li'l Meggy), were HasTak to give it another go.
