Huh. Well, that DOES simplify them sufficiently, but yeah, some angles make the arms look an awkward length. But that can be fudged, I suppose.

I don't know what it is about this mold, but among all the Deluxe molds we've gotten, it says "Upsized Legends toy" the most to me.

I have an odd fondness for it. It's gappy as all hell and doesn't even try to hide it, but the simple and straightforward (more or less) design really works. The Crankcase retool with the altered chest and back/doors etc really needed another pass or two though. Would love to get the rest of the colorways. I do also wish there'd be a GOOD motocompo accessory; the one 3P one I've seen is pretty meh.

I adore it. I love the Honda City and its whole vibe. The Legacy Skids mould isn't a fully faithful replication, but it's very close. And its boxy retro charm makes me happy in ways the T30 attempt didn't. And yeah, I'd love to see as many colour schemes as possible.

@Donocropolis clued me into the Hot Wheels Motocompo. Less than $2.

It'd be like a safer, less edgy but fuel-efficient version of the Cavaliere Featured by Dante from the Devil May Cry series.

To all the haters - yall go SO hard for mistransformed promo stock images. 🙄

Cleanest back on a SS Prime.

Also not sure how I never caught this, but his little wound is actually right around where SS86 Prime had his.

This is pretty much Evasion Mode Prime, but with all the fiddly nonsense and non-battle damaged sculpting corrected.

Transformation is pretty much an upgraded, cleaned up, and corrected engineering of the Evasion mold. It takes cues from the SSAoE Galvatron mold in that the cab pretty much turns inside out for transformation. Very fun with minimal fiddly steps.

CLEANEST back, in BOTH modes!

Only thing I don’t like about this is how easy it is to push the kneepads into the slots on the knees which locks the lower legs in place, and how loose the transformation swivel is in the calves, at least on mine.

I've been trying to avoid Missing Link for the most part due to cost, but Grimlock got me. And after fiddling with him fir a few minutes, I have to admit that I may not be able to resist future Dinobots should they be made.
I got mine a couple days ago. Love him so much, and struck by how I still have this somatic memory of avoiding the touching of the areas where the stickers are lest they rub off, only to remember that these are sculpted details now and that’s no longer an issue. They did this guy SOOO right.😍😍😍

He has a huge advantage over the vehicle Missing Link figures in that they articulated both his robot mode and dino mode. So satisfying to play with in both modes.

I'm intrigued by this mold. The more I see of it, the more I like: it's one of the few (maybe the only?) executions of this design that have those little love handle things completing the torso (the original Evasion Mode OP basically puts them together at the bottom of the ab grill), and the chunkiness of it suits the onscreen model better than the somewhat lanky original. I think the chest windows may be a bit too spread out, but it might be that the shoulder panels flare out the chest beyond what feels right proportionwise.

That said, the main weaknesses of this are really the color choices and the significant eyesore that is that back plate. The latter is partly an artifact of the inside-out transformation that has everything on a panel; can't have parts protruding because that wouldn't fit when they're turned outside-in for altmode. (This could also be why the chest windows are laid out like they are instead of closer and more stacked up.) Can't not notice it, and it's hard to get away from the way it looks like one of the Energon Igniters. This may have been one that got hit by the production cost rise right as it was being initially designed.

The color choices also seem to speak to a budget cut; Evasion OP is best done with a lavish paint budget that allows for really slathering on that rust and damage and weathering. Takara's Rusty version tried to compensate by going opposite: using a light, dusty cream color as the base and using spots of color as showing through the dust. That works out better in altmode than in robot mode.

I wonder if doing something like what they did for the WFC Sparkless Bot was ever an option, considering even Op's altmode is not really comparable in terms of how many cuts and panels there are. But even that was probably prohibitive now? In any case, deciding to go with these brownish desaturated shades reads like a compromise of "we can't cast it red/blue and then paint a ton of brown and rust on it, so... let's cast it somewhere in the middle". One's mileage my vary on that.

One day Takara or a 3P company or whoever is going to repaint the hell out of this (really, bring back Premium Finish one time) and then maybe people will see the vision.

Would like to see comparisons with the old and new Evasion Mode OP molds.

While I used to have every commercially-available version of the original Evasion Optimus mold, I'm down to a handful, and the only one at-hand is the Takara Nemesis Prime version, which happens to be the most gorgeous deco anyway.

And for a reminder of what the overly-bright original release looked like, have a crappy old photo:

So, the new SS one is an overall far better representation of the "Evasion-mode" Optimus starts off AOE with, with the faded colors and assorted battle-damaged sections being included as part of the mold itself. It also transforms into the proper Marmon 97 COE as opposed to the Freightliner-esque truck the original transforms into.

And yeah, better elbows and arms overall, not to mention a smoother transformation when it comes to those arms. I do, however, dislike the restricted range of motion of the feet on the SS version, which cannot tip forward at all, and have less ankle-tilt. I also dislike the fact that he looks like his head is surrounded by a bento-box, but that's a nitpick.
