Yeah the tower needed a bit of paint, both in the silver/white panels and a little something to show off the bridge windows.
I hadn't realized just how different it was. It's not just a smoothing out. The details, screw hole placements, even the parts shapes are all different.
Reminder that these pics are comparing the SS86 version to the Dramatic Capture Series version rather the original Siege version.
The DCS version strove to be more cartoon-accurate than the Siege version, just without any retooling. So it makes sense that both it and the SS86 version would look so similar to each other having the same goal in mind.
What we really need is a comparison between the SS86 version and the original Siege version to really show how different their colors are.

I saw him on the shelf on Saturday, but left him there. My Siege Shockwave is good enough for now. Maybe someday they'll do a brand new mold that is better enough to make me buy a replacement, but this one isn't quite there.
Nice! Did you find that Scourge in the wild? That and Spino-wave are my two must-have's from that wave.
EDIT: Now that Hasbro and Takara have both shown some willingness to use glow-in-the-dark plastic and/or paint, I would love that mold to be done up in full-on pale greenish-white glowing plastic as a ghost pirate ship, Flying Dutchman style.

I can do that. I used DCS becuase I'd seen previously people wondering how different they were since they had the similar design goals.
If not for cost concerns, I'd be tempted to collect all of the Shockwaves and say they were Doombot-style copies. The differences in color and style are just to sell the idea and keep people guessing as to which is the real one.
I think one of the things that sticks in my craw about this "new" version, is that Shockwave kinda deserves to be a little bigger and taller, IMO. They've redone both Soundwave and Megs in the Leader Class, and to me, Shockwave just looks so small next to them.

This will come off as selfish...but as someone who stuck with ER Optimus and Siege Megatron and didn't "upgrade" to SS '86 versions of either... SS '86 Shockwave actually works quite well for me.
Yep! Found him at Walmart. I was hoping to find Spinowave but no dice. Just Scourge and Hound.
