Looking back at some of the other posts, I'm wondering if maybe I misread the assignment?
Also, I clearly need to reorganize my Transformer collection, these were the only Cliffjumpers I could put my hands on in the couple minutes I had to make this...
No Gnus were harmed in the making of this (bad) picture.
Most of my old Star Wars Transformers are stored away since they are, frankly, pretty terrible, but I did keep out a couple of favorites like Grevious guard guy here and the Darth Vader/ Death Star.
Have you ever gone back to toys from a few years ago, or later, and realize just how magnificent they really are? On a lark, I pulled out Predaking from his storage box and put him back together again. Good God, I forgot just how imposing and impressive and just overall awesome he is.
So here's some pics of him with the modern frame combiners and Solid Horn.
That is an awesome version of Predaking! I still like my Unique Toys Warlord version a little bit better, but that scale of POTP Predaking is just a thing to see.
Seriously, the DNA kit just makes such a difference. In filling out the back and sides, the wings and the sword . . . Well worth the money.
Some of their kits haven't been worth it (looking at you, Armada Optimus) but the Predaking kit remains, IMO, their best work.
I have always liked PotP Predaking, it's just the individual modes that were deal breakers for me. But yeah, Feral Rex has held the position of "Modern Era Predaking" in my collection for well over a decade now, and I still love him. I would consider an official release again at some point, but it's gonna have to be better than PotP and bigger / far less expensive than the T-Spark version.
I just recently got the reissue of PotP Predaking, and I am a big fan. There's some quibbles, for sure, but overall it's a great mainline-quality representation of the character and a lot of fun to play with.
If cars, trucks and planes can get their proportions mostly right (Minibots excluded), all I ask is for the robot animals to have mostly right proportions. I hate how the POTP set's beast modes have generally thick, powerful forelegs and then toothpicks for hindlegs.
That explanation works for Razorclaw and Rampage since their hind legs actively transform between modes but Razorclaw's hind legs are actually proportionately chunkier than his quadruped teammates and Tantrum and Headstrong's hind legs are as spindly as Rampage's despite just chilling off the sides in leg and robot mode.
