To this day, I still wish Hasbro had colored all three members of the Dark Saber primarily black instead of white, like how the roleplay toy looked. For a sword that is supposed to look evil, only its hilt does, while the blade looks about as heroic as its Star Saber counterpart.

"Plot. I has some. Gun barrels cut, but back! Colors changes, but back! King Kong is Truk, not Munky! Quick take: Hello, he is another character! Were you another character too?"

"That's Galvatron to you."

-which I am sure was actually real dialogue somewhere in this...and also, yes, I think they were spotted. I saw very little of the Armada cartoon back in the day, and now I think I am MORE confused despite knowing quite a bit more about it now every time I see a clip.

I swear it is much better and watchable in Japanese (so long as you can get past Hot Shot's Japanese voice sounding a little a diet soda version of Gilbert Gottfried).

Only in the first half.
I quite like Armada. Never saw Micron Legends. Nothing against it but I'm not a Japanese speaker and so the English show was how I encountered it, I liked it, and because of that I've never felt compelled to search out the Japanese version.

Wow, that was hard to watch.
I mean, Megatron’s dialogue is somehow lightyears worse than any other character’s. And that’s saying A LOT. Like, genuinely, when I put “insert random David Kaye noises” in a post I did several weeks back I meant it.😂 Everything that comes out of Meg’s mouth is like a bad AI random sentence generator of things a Megatron voiced by David Kaye could say. And everything he ever says is only just a vague allusion to what is going on currently on screen, peppered with random HAHAHAs, angry grunts, or “Optimus!”. And his tone was like ALWAYS off of what was actually going on around him. It’s so weird.🥴

Like, I get the Armada stans for the toys; poseability aside, the designs were radical refreshing departures from anything we’ve ever known and the Mini-Con collectibility and gimmicks were pure unadulterated fun. Like, REALLY fun. But let’s not get it twisted on the show; it was ROUGH for a lot of its run. And though things finally came together much better MUCH later in the series, MegaGalvatron’s dialogue continued to resemble random AI sentence generated slop till the very end.

Like yall Armada show stans out there please be so for real; I do not believe anyone genuinely thinks Shakespearean writing like, “Galvatron to you HAHAHA hurrgh” (an ACTUAL, verbatim quote, mind you) was actually solid, much less coherent, writing.

are there even actually armada stans?
I know of a handful, most of whom were either kids at the time Armada was new and first got into Transformers from watching it or were older fans who tapped out of Transformers around G2 but then got back into Transformers when Armada started up.

are there even actually armada stans? like i'm pretty sure the only UT stans i've ever seen are for cybertron lol.
The Board was rife with them back in the day when the show first came out or freshly ended, arguing absurd points like it being “objectively better than Beast Wars” and I’m here like, “Really, my guy?🤨” Dunno. Not sure they’re even here anymore. Maybe they all migrated to TFW2005.

Armada definitely had one of the best battles between Optimus Prime and Megatron Galvatron, though.

That I agree upon, the two pretty much tore at each other in that final battle, it was the best fight since G1 86 movie and beats most of what comes afterwards, thou the third best fight has to be Cybertron/Galaxy Force's final fight, the others are forgettable

TBF I was locked in during that battle. And the animators discovered shadow shading by then so it actually looked tolerable.😂

Armada didn't have to be better than Beasties. It just has to be better than Beast Machines, and that it was.
I've never bothered to check out the latter, "good" part of Armada. So I just looked up the final fight, and... I dunno, I'm sure it would've seemed amazing in comparison if I'd just subjected myself to the whole series leading up to it for some reason. But on its own, it still had so many anime visual shortcuts, and the dialogue and delivery were still so bad. I'll definitely give it points for its physicality, though. Superomegaprime wasn't kidding about those two tearing into each other.

Comparing it to BM... I mean, that's a real race to the bottom, but it just so happens that one of the diamonds in BM's rough was the not-quite-final boss battle from 3:37-8:08:

I remember an online comment from someone at the time (possibly me, heh) saying how ironic it was that Cybertron had never looked so good, 10 minutes of screen-time before it was completely reformatted. Also holy crap, the Optimal body was capable of that? Primal, what were you even doing in season 3?

I'm not an unbiased judge, but I say it still holds up in a lot of ways despite its datedness. In fact, when it aired I thought it was the best-ever Optimus/Megatron fight, and it's still at least a contender in my book. I also just now watched the Cybertron final battle for the first time, and its CGI effects are better. But it's still mostly just a lot of anime punches and power-ups and kabooms, which don't do that much for me. Prime's action scenes were a high-water mark, but I don't remember specific ones well enough to call out any in particular.

And though things finally came together much better MUCH later in the series, MegaGalvatron’s dialogue continued to resemble random AI sentence generated slop till the very end.
Watching the final Armada fight and the final Cybertron fight back-to-back, the difference in writing and voice direction was like night and day. Almost hard to believe it was the same actors (though of course they'd both proven themselves well enough already in the Beast shows).

I'd actually remembered being impressed with the Megatron/Bumblebee final battle, and I gave that episode a quick skim before I posted. But it's enough of a different kind of good - like, actual good storytelling in a minimal number of shots, as opposed to a barrage of cool-looking animations - it felt like apples and oranges. Still, though, I agree it's worth highlighting.
