Every 30 days? I thought it was stupid as hell when I heard every couple years. This is an obsessive girlfriend demanding you check in all the time.

Please, someone, start a class action!
This is false.

After buying the the digital game you have to log in after before 30 days to verify the license.

Apparently this was something to do with a refund abuse.

Better. Still, just the very fact that it was believable is bad enough.

And Microsoft just proved even discs aren’t immune to connectivity issues:

So much for any goodwill Microsoft might have fostered from this…

Cartridges can have the same problem.

If a firmware update was sent out with a blacklist that says game title ID cannot be played, doesn't matter if it's disk, cart, online or anything.

Last year, Wilder Toys launchd their "Console Heroes" line of retro gaming collectibles. This year, they've moved on from the Genesis to the original Playstation.

The console display base includes a Cool Boarders rider, Axel, Gabe Logan (Syphon Filter), and Sir Daniel Fortesque. Besides the OG Playstation for your display base, the game sets are Twisted Metal 2, Final Fantasy 7, and Metal Gear Solid. Instead of the "traditional sculpted" style of the originals, these are sporting a novel "chunky pixel" look that I find kind of refreshing.
These are reportedly already showing up at Target stores.

Where the heck is Spyro?
Owned by Microsoft. Same with Crash

My shortlist would probably include a couple racers from WipeOut, Wild Arms, and Parappa the Rapper. But we'll see how these do. They never did do a second wave of Genesis carts.

So, in case you haven't heard, there's going to be a "Sony Blackout" starting tomorrow (Sunday Aug. 23) that goes for one week (Sunday Aug. 30) where people won't be logging on to PSN as a protest against the shenanigan's Sony's been pulling...in case you're interested in participating.

Personally, I won't be participating in it for a few reasons.

1: Assuming any real number of people actually do participate, if the backlash hasn't caught Sony's attention by now, I don't think some 1-week blackout it going to do it.

2: I plan on protesting my way...by not giving them any of my money going forward. I already preordered Wolverine and they're making it impossible to cancel the preorder. Let that be a lesson about pre-orders. But that will be the last of my money Sony ever sees.

3: I have stuff I already bought and sunk money into. I'm not going to NOT use things I've payed money for just because some corp has a bunch of assholes at the wheel.

But...there's the information if you care to participate.

In other PlayStation news, Amazon has opted to recast their lead of the God of Wars series with Dave Bautista.

Nothing against Bautista…but it feels like “stunt casting”. Like when Konami got Kiefer Sutherland to play a version of Snake in MGS Phantom Pain. While I’m amicable to the changes going from one medium to another…have you seen Christopher Judge? Man’s still in good shape and has enough bulk to play Kratos in real life (especially with the make up and effects). Then again, he DID critique Prime and other streamers for not hiring more people who’ve worked on the franchises being adapted.

Sure, I'll participate in the blackout. Not like I have to do anything.

I mean, it's not like Bautista was even the first choice, so I dunno on that one...

So you might know from other threads that my house got hit by lightning last month. It fried a lot of stuff, and I have now started replacing things this weekend. We got two new TVs and a new surround sound receiver, which is a JBL MA510 that looks like this:

Which the wife loves the look of, and we thought about getting a bunch of white components to go with it. So with that in mind, we went to get an Xbox One S at the local retro game store, and while we were there, they had two PS5s there for $450. Now the wife is a big PlayStation fan, so we got one! We picked up a few games for it, Star Wars Outlaws, Star Wars Fallen Order, Strangers of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, and one other game that the wife picked out that I can't recall what it was called. EDIT: It was Forespoken.

Any game recommendations for me?

I'm not a big PlayStation guy, but I like what I've seen of the new Dad of Boy God of War stuff (I didn't much care for the originals), Astro Bot is one I've heard good things about, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is pretty cool.

Oh, and I've only watched it being played, but Spider-Man seems pretty good. The whole lot of it.

I only got my PS5 this year, right before the price increases were announced, and I haven't been inclined to use it much recently with the no-disc thing, so I haven't gotten to do a ton with it yet. Having said that, if you like RPGs and haven't played Baldur's Gate III yet, I've really enjoyed that.

I feel sorry for those who bought a PlayStation just before their announcement.

I preordered Wolverine digitally just before Sony became my most hated company. Unfortunately, they make it next to impossible to cancel a digital preorder and the more I saw of Wolverine, the less excited I was for it.
It's pre downloaded on my system and officially becomes playable in six days. My hype for this game is dead!

I really enjoyed BG3, have several games on hand that I've been looking forward to... and I'm still happy with my decision to make sure I got the hardware with the known vulnerability that will almsot certainly lead to the system being hackable at some point in the future. Having said that, if I could go back and change things, I absolutely would have set that money aside to try to get the Zelda Switch 2, or just a regular Switch 2 if I couldn't get the Zelda console.
