I am entirely too broke to even begin interacting with that part of the game.

Working on it though. Looking forward to it, even.

But I'm just fixing a solar ship right now. The hardest parts are again platinum and parrafinium.

New update dropped:

Includes new parts, salvageable derelict corvettes and a new expedition with unlockable atlas-themed corvette parts.(some of those parts look like they'd be GREAT for building a reactor room) Looks like I'm gonna have to fire it up again after work, lol.

I love that they keep pumping out updates, though this one and the last one didn't really pique my interest. Never was much of a Pokemon fan, lol.

Some corvette shenanigans that Sean shared that seems on topic for this thread:

The 10th anniversary update is out, with claimable space stations, orbital bases, asteroid bases, a system map, reachable suns, and space salvage locations. You can also spacewalk from regular ships too, as well as corvettes,

You do want a corvette so you can mount a tractor beam on them, as you need that to get the bigger/better pieces of salvage some salvage missions require. Make sure there's room inside where you attach it too, as the objects shrink down and are physically stored in that section of the ship where you placed the beam. You can manually eject them from the tractor beam housing when landing, or carry them out by hand.

To claim a space station you need to rep up with the local alien faction and local guild -in that system- specifically, do 5 salvage jobs, and pay 1 billion credits. You can supposedly have more than one station, but don't know if there's a limit.

So little trick I discovered for building Corvettes, though I can't guarantee how long it'll stay working:
  • You can buy 50 Tractor Beams per station as a Basic module
  • Currently, Tractor Beams count as ADVANCED modules if you go to trade for Advanced modules
So you can go from station to station, buy out all the Tractor Beams, then trade them for any of the advanced modules you actually want for your build. It's not cheap, but it IS fast for getting advanced modules if you don't already have a stockpile.

So since I needed a salvage ship, I finally put in the time to properly build a corvette of my own design. I give you, the Far Star.

1791330657817.png

She's intended for salvaging and mining, so the side hulls are dedicated cargo holds, while the center hull is for crew and piloting. The four Phase Beam turrets are intended for mining asteroids, though they pack a punch all on their own, and arrayed around the cockpit are three photon cannon turrets. I did try Infraknife, but it didn't fit the aesthetic, and since I couldn't remove the base photon cannon anyways, I leaned into it.

1791343019497.png

She may look big compared to a regular one-man ship, but she handles like a dream.

1791343039860.png

*edit* While I'm upgrading the images, here's a few bonus pics!

I got a few interior pictures too, though it's a bit hard to get good ones due to the cramped quarters.

1791343960155.png

The ground entryway at the rear hatch. Off to the side is a medical station, but it's hidden from this angle. The stairs take us up to the main deck.

1791343973003.png

The mission area and cockpit.

1791343984481.png

To the rear is the living quarters. Since it's not intended for long missions with multiple crew, there's only a single bunk.

To the left and the right are the connectors to the cargo holds, which also double as workshops.
1791343999014.png

1791344009011.png

The cargo holds themselves are fairly bare bones.

1791344020985.png

The fore of the right cargo hold

1791344060134.png

And the aft view, including a wall-mounted refiner.

The left hold is pretty much the same, with a slightly different set of crates and boxes. It also has a second refiner to ensure plenty of capacity.

So this morning's patch "fixed" the Tractor Beam trade-in trick. Now it's back to either turning off purchase cost or going Creative if you don't want to salvage them yourself, so looks like I finished the Far Star just in time. On the other hand, the Tractor Beams sell for 100% of their cost if you're sitting on extras still.

And turns out the Far Star, fully equipped, actually beats my Starborn Runner class ship by the numbers in everything except weapon damage.

1789562313140.png

1789562323972.png

The Puddlejumper's Infraknives do delete anything it fires at for more than a few seconds so that amount of damage is overkill anyways, but kind of funny given the intended roles for each ship. The Far Star is rather bulky though so I'll probably still use the Puddlejumper on that save for my star system scouting.

So I got my second purpose-built salvage corvette made now, this one for my permadeath save. Since she normally flies a living ship, has a living ship squadron, and has a full living frigate fleet, if she was going to fly a technological ship I wanted to to look organic in design. I trieda dragonfly at first, as the abdomen would eb eprfect for a cargo pod, but I couldn't find a design I liked, so I tried a beetle instead, and got something I did kind of like:

1789881986042.png

There was just one problem: the accessible area was a straight room/corridor, so if I added a tractor beam, it would just dump all the salvage right in the walkway and block access to the ship. I was going to just drop it for now, but came across another corvette design that gave me an idea: what if I made it a space tug?

1791340371364.png

1791339823665.png

1791339853966.png

1791339871876.png

And this worked! A dedicated cargo/salvage pod carried via a cargo connector, that can catch things thrown at it from almost any angle. I also added a few improvements, and took greater advantage of the part coloring to emphasize the beetle shell look with the wings and back, and to help indicate the cargo pod and its connector are something extra, not an integral part of the ship. All it's missing is cosmetic landing gear to attach to the ship itself, and the ability to have a second configuration to switch to easily without the post, without just building a second copy.

I may still do that in the future anyways, but as it is it's already as maneuverable as the Far Star and Puddle Jumper, has shields on par with the Far Star, and its Positron Ejector cannons have shredded pirate ships about as fast as the Puddlejumper's infraknives in my dogfight tests. It only has about half the hyperdrive range, but that wasn't a priority anyways.

And now some internal pics for comparison!

1791340403308.png

At the rear of the ship, on the port side is the refiner/replicator and the crew personal effects storage and workspace.

1791340420485.png

And on the starboard side, the medipod and bed, with a chair to rest in or drag over to the workbench for when you need to sit a while while working on something.

1791340450734.png

Just past that is the kitchenette, files, and desk for spreading maps on or simply putting papers or things temporarily.

1791340461561.png

Looking the other direction, we see the mission computer on the right, and the left has auxiliary computer access and seating for passengers. Directly ahead is the stairs down to the cockpit and pilot chair.

*edit* While I'm adding better pictures, I did build a second non-cargo version, so pics under the spoiler!

I really need to get my controller back from my daughter and fire the game back up. Granted I only really use the controller for spaceflight.

Same. Controller feels better for ships, but KB and Mouse feels better for ground for me.

Just came across this claimed space station build on one of the NMS reddits:
1790780961336.png

Unfortunately it apparently took some save editing to rotate everything properly so not something you can do unaided.

Also gonna have a couple more corvettes to post soon! Still doing some tweaking on them before they're fully ready.

As mentioned, corvette time!

First, a minimal salvage corvette I assembled for a character I'll be using to manage my first bunch of space stations(given the amount of parts they use and the part limit per save). And I'm not kidding when I call it minimal - the front section is just the cockpit and a lift to enter and exit from, then there's a physical seperator, then the cargo hold. The cargo hold does have an exit ramp for manual loading.unloading, or making sure I can get out if I accidentally get sucked into a tractor beam port.

I've named it: Rockhopper

No internal pics because there is literally nothing internal to show off. Like I said, very barebones, just meant to fly out there and come back with salvage.

The second corvette design was party due to me wanting to play around with some of the sentinal/Aeron parts more directly, so I figured if I have a character whose entire purpose is designing corvettes, shouldn't he have a personal corvette? And thus the Night Raider was born:

Going to start this off with an image of the entryway to whet the whistle, then put the rest behind a spoiler tag so it doesn't make the thread page go on forever. Plus, bonus pic of my corvette designer's look!

After first entering, you see some of the tanks for the engines to the lift and right.

1791341874924.png

The main access area, with stowage and general computer access, as well as stairs to the upper deck.

1791341893107.png

1791341905391.png

Towards the front on the lower deck is the crew quarters, with a workspace, personal storage, some seating and a couple bunks.

1791341923382.png

From the main access area, to the left and right are entryways to the engine rooms of the ship. Here you can see one of the built-in fuel refiners, which can be repurposed for other refining when all current fuel has been processed.

1791341941918.png

One of the two engine cores, with its own dedicated console. You can see more of the tanks feeding into it here, as well.

1791341961436.png

The back of one of the engine compartments, giving access to the power system circuitry and monitoring.

1791341977925.png

Upstairs of the main junction area is the computer cores themselves, and some tool storage.

1791341994510.png

Towards the back of the ship is the lounge and mess, with a little kitchen, bar, some seating, and a nice view out the rear window.

1791342012543.png

Lastly, towards the front is the mission planning room, and beyond that the cockpit itself.

First things first. When I was working on getting an image to share with someone, I noticed that screencaps were giving a LOT better quality than the built-in screenshot function, so I went through and re-took all the corvette images I'd done earlier, as well as a few new ones! I've gone back and updated all the old posts I made with the updated images, and added the new ones as well - easiest ones to miss would probably be the non-cargo version of the PF9 Lightning Bug, as I put those behind a spoiler since when I wrote that post I hadn't done that variant yet.

Now, the other reason I came to post. I had a thought and decided to experiment with station-building a bit, but I think I put a few too many guns.

Internal additions behind the spoiler!

The main concourse, when you first arrive. I turned the underpass kiosks into actual offices.
1791344277341.png

The Mission office, with added seating, and multi-tool storage:
1791344311486.png

1791344351569.png

The central area with the teleporter and trade terminal now also has some monitors for trade activity and some seating of its own
1791344406643.png

1791344422140.png

And the Cartographer's office, with additional info displays and, you guessed it, seating!
1791344466454.png

1791344484962.png

Up on the balcony, I revamped the passenger waiting area and turned it into a restaurant/bar area.
1791344533627.png

And the center of the mezzanine now has a bit more seating and a terrarium with a little guy to watch, for those waiting on their partner to finish shopping. Don't mind the Korvax scientist, he likes to get a bit knee-deep in his work.
